Seriously, I'm about to blow my frigging brains out. I just started working on SMF, all i have ever used is proboards. Can anyone tell me how you change your icons on SMF. Like the menu buttons, posting buttons, new/old post icons, and such. I have clicked every button in the adminCP and nothing even close to what I'm looking for.
I have NO idea what I am doing, the adminCP looks like a foreign language to me. So please be as descriptive as possible. I'll pay plenty of FP Cash if someone can steer me in the right direction.
I have searched google, the smf help forums, and anything imaginable. I thought it'd be something simple.
Like i said ... i have NEVER done anything like this. I'm completely new to hosting, using cPanel stuff, and all that glorious mumbo jumbo. All I have ever worked on is probaords.
I really have no clue what you said. You have to pretend I don't know what you know. 😛
Go to your cpanel, then go to the file manager. You'll have to go to your forum's directory, then to themes, your theme, and there will be a directory there for the theme's images. Just upload the ones you want to replace them and they'll automatically be replaced 🙂
I've actually, surprisingly found my way around what you were guiding me through. But, I have no idea how to replace an image, or even tell what image I'm replacing. I see the Upload Icon, but don't know when i should click it.
Well view the image from it's location to see which one you're replacing. You upload in that folder an image with the same name and it'll ask you if you want to overwrite the file. Just click yes and it'll be overwritten and you'll have your new image in place of the old one 🙂
I have uploaded the same pic 20 times in all the folders on the cPanel File Manage. I have yet to find my pic's file, and can't even begin to replace it with anything until I know where it's at when uploaded. I have been randomly clicking every box, every folder, and cannot find the image i have uploaded at least 20 times.I'm watching tutorial videos. Looks simple. For some reason, I'm not having any luck.
The file needs to be the right name. Eg: Your forum banner/logo 'needs' to be logo.png, etc...
You may want to recruit somebody to help you out if you are completely clueless. I was in the exact same boat as you (and still kinda am) until I got some help.
You have to make sure that the filename is the same. You can find out the filename by (on Firefox) right clicking the image and then click on Copy Image Location.
If you still need help on this, I can do whatever you need me to (provided it isn't a huge project) for FP$.
I've done paid work for: http://www.comoganharmuitodinheiro.com/
Before.
Most of what you need to do to replace images is in FTP.
FP Cash ... FP Smash I'll pay real cash through paypal if you can kinda teach me some basics about using cPanel and SMF. Unless FP Cash is more valuable to you? 😛
I mean, might only be about $5-10 through paypal; I just really want to get this over with and figure this out.
I have been searching non stop for tutorials on everything about this, they have internet tutorials for tying your shoes, but I have yet to find anything remotely useful for what I',m trying to learn ... it's like everyone but me knows how to do this.
Just contact me through PM, might be easier through an IM, I have msn and skype. If you have either, just PM me your details.
HOORAY! Through much trial and error I finally figured it out.
I go into my Legacy file Manager, delete the image I want to replace, then upload the image I want as the same file name, click it, rename it to name.gif.
Not sure if that's really how, lol, but that's how I did it.
Now, I need to learn how to add mods, packages, and crap 🙁
Packages: Admin > Packages > Download Package > Upload (the eintire zip file).
Click Apply Mod, then Install Mod. If there are errors, do not install the mod, post here and I may be able to help you.
Themes: Admin > Themes and Layout > Upload theme.
And I told you Legacy, much better than File Manager. 😉
Of course I owe all my thanx to you , bro. Much Appreciated. Just, you seen the errors we kept running into on the loaned out cPanel we were working on. I decided to get my own hosting, and everything worked fine 🙂
And, the quick guide helps to an extent. But, you remember the questions I was asking the other day 😀 You of all know how lost I am in this.
I will sell my soul to you for help 😀 You might be proud of me, bro. I actually installed the custom board icons package, and actually edited it in the cPanle correctly, and have my custom board icons showing for each individual board.
A giant leap for the smf NOOB 😛
I'll most likely be asking for help installing other packages I have interests in I have already found, soon. Taking baby steps at the moment.
Again, thank so much for the offer. You already know what you're getting into, lol.
