I am interested to know; Do you use the default smilies that come with your forum software, make your own, download free/paid download packs, you don't use smilies, or something else? If you find them somewhere else, where do you get them from? Would you/do you pay for smilies?

I've yet to find a good smilie set with renders that work on dark backgrounds, but I don't know many people that actually like using emoticons anyway, so we've stuck with the stock set.

My most favorite forum animated stickers/smilies so far and probably forever is onion heads. You can't go wrong with them, the expressions vary a lot, and they look so cute and accurate in expressing your feelings. Then again, there must be lots of other smilies out there I haven't discovered. I've just used onion heads longest so it's special for me. XD

I use the default MyBB ones since they're pretty nice, although one of these days, I'm gonna go and add in a ton of other cool emotes

Absolutely! It's an integral part of any form of on line communication, as you do not have facial expressions to guide you toward the true meaning of the written text/message that the poster is trying to put forward.

I've seen many conversations blow out of all proportions which may have been avoided by a simple smiley. I actually encourage the use of smile's on my forum. We have a basic set contained within the software from our hosts, but I have added quite a few more from various websites that I have downloaded, a few at a time, not sets, after reading posts by members who are trying to express themselves in a certain way :great:

I should probably look into customizing the smilies on SS. On other forums though when they are available and I think they can emphasize my point I definitely love using animated smilies. :cheer:

I have always just used the default smilies that come with the software I use. If I install a new theme though I will try to look for a new set of smilies that accompany it better, as the default ones usually don't mix very nicely. I have never paid for custom or premium smilies, and don't plan to. I find them to be an unnessecary expense when so many good free sets are available, especially when a website is new. I rather put that money towards a custom theme or advertising.

I certainly do use a few animated emoticons for my community. We don't have a lot to choose from, but most of them are regularly used.

They would look good there, especially with the new theme. I have seen forums with too many smilies, 250+. I never even used half of them. 😛

The default ones that come already added are used; they're not animated. I would like to get some custom ones though, they seem pretty cool.
