They might link to your site from their blog which has dofollow links which pass link juice/page rank.

Some social networks also have dofollow liniks which pass link juice which can increase your search rankings.

Bing, Yahoo, Ask, and other non-Google search engines also count nofollow links in their search rankings, and treat them as regular links.

Google and other search engines are also start using social media as a factor in ranking your site.

Most importantly, Social networking sites like Twitter, Digg, Facebook, and Stumbleupon can be a great source of free traffic if your content is great!
