I think smoking should be alowed in your own home only, i really hate smoke.. ~evil~

Yes, it should be banned. Unless you feel that it's ok to kill yourself slowly, then go ahead and lock yourself up in a room and smoke... ~rolleyes~

The government should tax the hell out of cigarettes to pay for those who don't have health insurance. There's no reason for people to start smoking when it's proven to be very bad for your health.

I agree that it should be banned in public places, but not altogether. I don't mind people smoking themselves to death in the privacy of their own homes, but not in public where they can cause health problems for other people!

No, i think it should be banned from allowed in public places, but i think if people choose to smoke its their problem not mine.

I do, because smoking can kill me,thats the only reason why i think it should be banned

Recently smoking was banned from enclosed spaces in Toronto, but I don't think it should be banned fully, if smoking was illegal, adolescents would think it was even cooler that they were doing something illegal, so they would smoke even more for attention, and if it does get banned, you kinda can't just arrest someone on the spot, the worst you could do was to give them a dirty look, so personally, I feel that would escalate the problem

I'm glad the smoking ban in England has now come into force as going out is so much nicer. Neither myself nor my partner smoke and we hated going out for meals to have someones fag smoke waft across while we were trying to eat. And I used to get really annoyed about the ignorance of smokers lighting up next to us if were out with our baby son..... some smokers are just totally selfish and show no consideration about the effects of second hand/passive smoking.

Banning smoking completely?
That's gonna be a hard task,,,Governments love the interest they make from it..the revenue it generates, then they take that revenue and refuse to cure the ones suffering in the hospitals from the ill fated smoking they endure over the years!

Silly world!

I think it's both groase, respectless and asocial towards asthma patients.

Banning never really solves anything, as a non smoker myself, I can certainly understand the desire to have it banned, however, if you look back on history, at issues such as Prohibition, prostitution, underaged drinking, and drugs, banning something only increases the likelihood of someone doing it illegally.

Even though normally I would not be in favor of any form of segregation per se, I would not be aversed to segregation between smokers and non-smokers.. Smokers (or at least the ones I've seen here) have no problems with being around other smokers, this way they get to smoke to their heart's content, and it wouldn't bother the non-smokers one bit.. except to the extent of being separated from their loved ones who do smoke. The way I see it is that it would be one more incentive toward quitting.

Well, I think smoking shouldn't be banned but don't get me wrong. I think it is a good way for the government to earn money. I personally don't smoke and hopefully never will. If the government bans this, people would just get it from the black market. Instead of banning it, the government should put a very high tax on smoking, so high that people won't be able to afford it and if they can, then that is good income for the government. Something like £50 of tax per packets of cigarettes sounds reasonable.

No, I don't think it should be banned. While it is bad for you, people are their own individual people. I can warn someone that something is bad for them, but it isn't my responsibility to ban them from doing it. Pretty much everyone knows it's bad for you, but they do it anyway, which is their own fault. I see it almost like suicide. I dislike the idea of suicide or smoking, but I'm not going to shove it down on someone not to smoke, or commit suicide, it's their own choice. Obviously, I would advise them from doing it, but I won't all out ban them from it, or really even make it significantly harder for them to smoke, or commit suicide, because people find ways around things, especially when the government restricts them.

Thats a good point but at the same time, people inhale second hand smoke which is annoying for people who don't smoke and harms their health. Wouldn't banning it be better in this case?

An "annoying" thing isn't a very good argument, I don't think. I think plenty of things are annoying, per say. However, no one talks about banning "annoying" TV shows.

On health: that's something that, quite frankly you will find a study from every different opinion. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of independent studies, oposed to government studies by government agencies. With most independent studies, they find that it takes a significant amount of second hand smoke to make much of a health different. Example: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 04077.html
