Welcome to my new custom style sneak peak page! I will keep you updated on my progress on this style. I am hoping to receive a lot of feedback and suggestions. Please do not hold yourself back!

Current progress: index page almost ready, viewtopic looks more like ready to go, other pages not ready.

Current key features:

  • drag-able search window
  • jQuery toggle search window, animated
  • professional color scheme
  • unique viewtopic and memberlist design
  • unique custom made icons
  • clean, professional layout
  • a lot of CSS3
  • ...more features coming soon

Additional information: some elements may look different in different browsers. You can get the best view on Chrome.
This style wont be free to all to maintain the uniqueness.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

One more suggestion:

A drag and drop forum layout.

Like on this site for example that uses Christian Bullock his theme:

http://fragwars.com/

Other then that it looks really good.

I am familiar with that style and I've read some comments about that same drag-and-drop feature - majority of the users don't find it useful. I am not planning to use it.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

The theme looks great, I realise it's not finished but do you have a demo version on a site that we can view?

Only master412160 have seen it live on my own computer, I don't have it anywhere yet, only on localhost.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

I have to say, this theme looks absolutely amazing, and I can't wait till it is finished.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

This looks stunning, I'd love to get a copy of this when it's done, even though I'm not a phpBB user. 😀

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

I like where you're going with it so far

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

Thank you all! Means so much to me! :')

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

I'm really not a fan Zaborg. I find that the need to be able to move the search and login boxes not needed. The actual design is really nothing special. Looks to me as though the default prosilver theme was modified and the gradients and images changed, nothing much else.

Maybe the end product will prove me wrong, maybe they will not. I will keep an eye on this to see the progress and how this evolves.

I agree. That movable feature is pointless, but I will keep it. It doesn't have to be functional, it's more like for fun.

I would love to hear more from you. What could I add to the style that would make you happy?

Currently I'm working on the viewforum design. So far it looks pretty nice. But sadly, there could be some similar design elements like here on FP, I know that so no need to tell me that.
I will post screens soon!

ALSO if anyone is interested in the LIVE view on the style, drop me a PM and I'll give you my IP!<br /><br />-- 31 Dec 2012, 09:43 --<br /><br />Added 1 new screenshot.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

It's very good for a phpBB theme. Would like to see more colour but nevertheless a good theme.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

Its a nice light theme i can see it will be very good keep up the good work man.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

Thanks, thanks!

Anyone got any suggestions or ideas? What would YOU want to see on a good forum design?

Also I would like to point out that there are still heavy limitations how far I can go. If I would like a 100% unique style then I would have to change php files but I can't do that because it would make it impossible to others to use this style on a board with modifications.

But I try my best to make it look as unique as possible just with html/css/js edits.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

I can't really agree with what has been said above. This looks like a re-coloured prosilver with a few added extras. The design aspect of it is really old and doesn't keep up with modern design as it is today. For a free theme I can see it working, but I would never call this a premium theme as it looks now. I suggest you really work on the design of the theme, it shouldn't look like an updated prosilver...

1) It's not even done yet, this is just the beginning of this style.
2) For extreme uniqueness, I would have to change php files which I can not perform, unfortunately. It would be impossible to install the style on different forums because of the .MODs.
3) I can only work with html/css files which are given by default with the prosilver.
4) It's based on prosilver. The key word is "based", it's NOT a completely new style. (I'm not even sure if there are any non-prosilver-based styles out there.)
5) If I'd make it too much different it would look totally alien and nobody would like that + it would not fulfill the basic Web design golden rules. That is basic Web development knowledge I learned from college so it basically HAS to look like "recolored prosilver".
6) As much I have researched current free phpbb3 style business area, there are much worse examples. Most of the free styles currently offered as free to use have no html changes, only minor css modifications. There are no fresh elements at all and viewtopic.php/memberlist.php/ucp.php designs are exactly like default prosilver. Graphics in most of these free styles are very poor and the color schemes are rather childish than professional.
7) I have used a lot of "modern" design elements which are basically non-existent in current free to use phpbb3 styles. This includes a lot of CSS3 and some graphical elements.
8) I can only offer "vanilla"-look on the theme. There is no way I could add extra modifications which would drastically change the overall looks of the style. It has to be done separately on actual live forums.
9) I've had amazing feedback since I started making this style, people call it the best style they have ever seen, so I rely on their opinions.

Thank you, looking forward from heating more from you!

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

You say you can only change the HTML and CSS which is more than enough to make this theme look completely unique and get away from the look of a recoloured prosilver. This is something I know about as I too design forum themes. I can tell you from experience that people will not pay for a recoloured prosilver, there are hundreds of those available for free in the phpbb style database. People want unique and different, which this theme really isn't. CSS3 may be modern coding standard, but it says nothing about modern design standard.

You say other themes have colour schemes that are not professional or look childish. I could say that about your theme, it doesn't look professional.

Re: [Sneak peak] Proximus v1.0 (custom, premium)

@Santa Claus I really don't mean to be rude, but I don't think you're being fair... why don't you give him suggestions on how to improve the design instead of just plain criticising him?

@Zaborg — a few things I would change:

  • I agree with Patrick. I don't know why anyone would want to move the search/login, nice touch regardless. 🙂
  • Definitely gotta change that green tick on unread forum icon. It's way too dominant.
  • Too much whitespace in the header. I'd make the logo a bit bigger, at the moment, it just looks too empty.
  • Not sure about the gradient on the forum header. I like the metallic feel, but I think it's too much.
  • Footer — not sure if it's a bug or intended, but like the header, too much whitespace.
  • Viewtopic search button border is too dark.

Everything else looks great and I think you're talented! 🙂 You'd make an awesome designer with a little more practice, so would you be interested in a Forrst invite?

Thanks for leaving such a lovely comment!

Yes I totally agree with the whitespace. I think I will make the box on the right a bit bigger and add more stuff into it. Very good point!
Ye I went nuts with the green tick, I made it from scratch so I guess I got too over-excited. 😀 I have almost zero experience on making icons from scratch.
That gradient, I'm not sure. Just white would be boring as well, don't you think? It makes the whitespace less noticeable as well, I guess. I'll try to think what to do with it.
Footer is pretty much untouched, haven't got to that part yet.
Border too dark, you are probably right. Will look on that as well, thanks!

You're welcome! Glad to see you're taking in my feedback. 🙂
