Im looking to create another forum.. on a free host.. beacuse i dont have ways of paying for a paid one. Ive always used Invisionfree but im now looking elsewhere.
I find phpbbs to hard. so have been looking at IPB or Invision Plus. but im getting in a muddle as of which is the best and not to complicated.
If its a free forum host then it should make a difference which is more complicated, i would go with phpBB as its the easiest to use but at the end of the day it just comes down to what you have used in the past and what your most comfortable with using.
If you can't afford paid hosting, what you could do is install phpBB or smf on a free webhost. This would give you alot of extra control over the forum.
You can get prophpbb http://www.prophpbb.com/ with no ads, you could get that forum and it would be like proboards with no ads. Or like mentioned above you could install software on to a host, which is good and try mybb its good
Hmmm... personally i'd reccomend installing MyBB on a free host. Compared to phpBB, it's much better.
-One click MODs
-More MODs than phpBB / more advanced MODs (cash system is better, for example)
-Admin panel extremely easy to use, didn't take me but a few minutes of looking around before I could do anything I wanted.
-Setting permissions is a breeze, much faster and easier than phpBB
-Almost NO exploits as a very famous hacker (he owns HF) allows the MyBB team to know of them before they go public
The downside is support, because it isn't as widely used they don't have a huge support forum. MyBB is often looked down upon, even though in all reality it's much easier to use, is safer, and is better looking if you ask me.
From my current experience, i'd say the top forum software out there, including paid, is the free MyBB platform.
I use iPBfree. It's really nifty, actually. It's the same software as Invisionfree but several times better. Firstly, it has a skin selector, which pleases my skin-making self so I have about 6 skins for my RP which people can choose from. You can also use bizarre languages (depending upon what the user would like).
It has some cool mods, too. Like a chatbox. I generally get my chatboxes from www.cbox.ws rather than from the forum itself for reasons that would take awhile to explain.
You think phpbb3 is hard? If you ask me, it's one of the most easiest, user-friendly forum hosts out there. I would definitely recommend using it to create your forum. However, if you're still unsure, then I would go with IPB.
