I am setting up a blog and forum that will be a resource for an online community. Eventually I would like to offer my consulting services and other products on that site. I would also like to promote myself and my knowledge to prospective hiring managers now.

My question is, so that I can achieve the above, should I create my social media accounts in my name or the name of my company - or both? At present I only have a LinkedIn account in my name.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

For this reason, you should create a social media account for the company. I wouldn't mix your personal account with your professional account and it just looks more serious in my opinion.

You can create a personal account by all means and link to the site as a portfolio sort of style if you know what I mean. But a seperate company account would be better off.

Imagine the CEO of Tesco using his Twitter account for the same purpose as the Tesco Twitter account. It wouldn't look great. Same applies here really. Plus, if you accidentally say the wrong thing on your personal account, it won't affect your business as much.

I personally wouldn't use my personal account to advertise my site, maybe a new page by my personal account. I would 100% go for a seperate account which all administrators could use to help out also!

I will suggest you leave out your personal account and make use of a new social media account to do any promotion of your website, products, services etc. if you create the account in your company name in partnership with the company, you must be ready to submit it to them if you retire or resign or sacked from the company. or else it may be better to use your personalized name for it

I would suggest to create social media accounts with company name as it is providing the services. You can be the support staff providing information and helping out your customers.

Never mix a personal and a business account together through social media. Too much bad PR could happen by doing this, and makes you have to limit your opinion, as you should be able to have a separate opinion on topics and or discussions that the company should not comment on.

You should use both way. Because the social media account in your company name will help in brading job, the one in your name is friendly to customer and usually used for customer caring.
In order to show your ability to the hiring manager, you should use your name.

I will go with @GloryNail with this one. I think I will set up the social media account in my company's name, but will not hesitate to use my personal account also for promotion. This is because, people like to interact with 'individuals' rather than interacting with an official social media handle representing the company. Thats too official according to me.

It protects your brandname and it's reputation. I highly recommend registering official social media accounts :/

Thank you for sharing your thought. I will do this for my client website. Earlier i was little bit confused about this.

I'm actually doing this right now.

https://twitter.com/CarlosX360 is my personal/business Twitter.
https://twitter.com/CoDForums is one of my websites.

So, I would do this if you plan to have a personal account, and a "strictly business" Twitter account for your consultancy/products website.

LinkedIn allows you to have a personal page, and a business page. All controlled from your linkedin account, so you don't need to make a new account for your consultancy site. Same with Facebook.

However, you'll need to create a new account for Twitter/instagram/YouTube, etc. for each uses.
