I am currently working on getting my new forums Social Media profiles setup and ready prior to completely launching. As far as I keep reading on the web it appears that establishing a Social Media presence for your forum is one of the best ways to at least gain traffic to your forum and potentially get new users.

I am wondering if anyone else has gone about doing this method of promotion and how it has gone for them and if possible what it kinda looked like for you.

I've recently got a Twitter made for my forum and while every tweet I made hasn't gained me new members (yet), I have however enjoyed a lot of attention in each one. The more I do it, the more I'll be seen by the entire world 🙂

They say there are twitter bots around and that makes me skeptical. But, surely, my business forum attracts a lot of followers.

Yes, I'm aware of this already and others would be too. That's why Twitter had put in "organic impressions" to show that if your tweets were seen by real humans.

No problem 🙂 By the way, I should tell you that if you make a tweet containing a link to a specific forum thread of yours, plus a currently-trending hashtag, watch your "Most Online Users" record explode. Just happened to me there 😀

Social media is the most fertile place now for marketing activities. If you have an account that is active with lots of followers and connections then it is one good way of promoting your forum. One friend who was doing that before was kind of successful. He would be posting on Facebook a new thread on his forum that is interesting and it will be like an invitation to his social media friends.

Forum developers often hate social media cause it's taken attention away from forums. Nonetheless, social media can bring traffic to a forum - rather than be an enemy.

I feel like that's mainly spiders/bots, but that sounds like a nice thing to try. 🙂

I'm using this way. Social media profiles are presences for my brand officially. They do not only drive organic traffic but also paid traffic too. If you have knowledge about FB Ads, you will drive more traffic through paid campaigns on it.

I never tried social media promotion for a forum, however, I have tried promoting my blogs and websites through social media and it really helps. Join as much social sites as you can and create profiles for your website. Invite people to like and follow your accounts. The success of social media promotion lies in the large number of followers. Try to build followers. While promoting just don't drop links, write a teaser and have a feature image on your post

I am finding that Twitter and Facebook may be the best platforms for me to establish the Social Media presence...I've made a few posts on Instagram but I want to reference people to some threads and I can't.

Yes. Social media is a great way to promote your forum. But don't spam posts while promoting it or else people will be annoyed by you. Post 1 or 2 times every week. Doing 1 or 2 posts every week should be enough to bring in at least 4 - 10 users.

Good luck.

More often, yes. But if you catch the right person, and you made the correct hook, that conversion can happen. On top of that, it's a ranking signal on Google SERPs.

They don't allow you to directly link the actual URL. But you can tell people where to go if you want them to join, however you won't know if you've converted or not. As it doesn't show that you linked the site on the instagram post. Some pages has links to social media profiles on "stories." You click on the story, and swipe up, it takes you there. That is, to my knowledge, the only way to convert your followers into visitors.

Yes, Social Media helps in increasing reach of your forum. But you need to make a good strategy and follow it to make people aware of your forum. One more thing, hashtag are important while using social media, using them wisely can pay a lot more dividends.

Social media presence is a must these days - but you have to pay for a real one. Well, third world people might be able to make money without paying - if by using "the free aspect" they can catch a few buyers here and there (not as much 1st world money is needed to make a profit in the third world).
