Social Stats
Full Review by Twisted Fairytale
So I just want to start off this review by apologizing for the horrible lateness. It's one of the most late reviews I've ever written, and unfortunately, it may also be the shortest due to the amount of content of the website. However, hopefully I can offer some good advice and feedback. Allons-y!
First Impressions & Appearance – (14 out of 20)
When first opening SocialStats, I'm greeted with a very soft white theme with grey accents. It's very, very simple. The logo is very well made and looks professional. Honestly, I would say that it's too simple. Add some color, or at least make the gray and white semi-distinguishable; because at the moment, unless I move my head, it all looks white. There's not much to say, other than it's just very simple. Considering that most of the site is simple, I wouldn't say this is a bad thing. However, since there's nothing really special about the appearance, I'll have to rate it a 14.
Site Layout – (16 out of 20)
Once again, the layout of Social Stats is very, very simple. There isn't much going on at all. At the top, we have the logo, sitting close to the opening message. There is a quick sentence or three to describe what the site is about, and then the stat box is presented. It's nothing too special and very simple. Below that are three boxes, each giving a little more information about the service provided. These provide a little more fill to the rather empty page. Then, there is the footer.
I wouldn't say the site is too simple, but the layout is pretty straightforward. Nothing really seems out of place, and there aren't any advertisements. Good setup!
Content – (15 out of 20)
It's hard to really judge the content of a website with two real pages. The first page being the main homepage. It contains the input box as well as the description of the service. The second page contains the exact same, except it also includes the social stats of the searched page. Social Stats is very simple; more simple than any other functional site I've ever seen. I would almost say it's too simple, but I would have no way to back that up and improve it.
However, it seems to have all of the content it needs to function, and therefore deserves a score of at least 15!
Spelling/Grammar & Professionalism – (14 out of 20)
In the two pages that SocialStats has, I can't find any spelling mistakes. In addition, the grammar used is average. I found one sentence in particular that could stand to be revised: "Social Stats uses multiple methods to fetch your websites statistics in case there is something that is not supported by your host it will automatically fetch stats using a different way." This sentence is a run-on, and should be revised to something similar to: "Social Stats uses multiple methods to fetch your website statistics! In case there is something that is not supported by your host, it will automatically fetch stats using a different way." By revising that sentence, it eliminates any unwanted pauses.
In addition, the main headline reads: "A simple social media tool that will fetch the social statistics of your website. These stats include Facebook comments, likes, shares, Twitter tweets, Pinterest pins, StumbleUpon views, and much more!" The way I interpret this sentence is that, if I were to search a website, I would be able to see the amount of individual Facebook comments, likes, and shares. However, that's not how Social Stats operates. When searched, I only see a compiled number of all Facebook comments, likes, and shares, as well as all the other social media. Perhaps using "Facebook Mentions" would better get the point across. I'm not exactly sure, but it's something worth addressing!
Other than those two issues, I find nothing else wrong with the grammar used. Social Stats feels personalized, but it also feels like a tool. I understand that it is a tool, but personalizing it a little more would be very beneficial. For example, instead of using the word "it," try the word "we." It works either way, but it's just preference! I believe a 14 is appropriate for the grammar and professionalism, only because of the amount of content there is compared the few mistakes.
Total Score - (59 out of 80) - 74%
Final Remarks:
I apologize due to the shortness of this review, but Social Stats is very simple. This may be what the creator was looking for, but I would almost say it's too simple. It's a tool that someone can pull up and use, but really won't pay much attention to anything else on the site. Otherwise, good tool; and a very hard review to write!
Strengths:
- - Very clean and simple
- Clean results and working system
Weaknesses:
- - Maybe too simple
- Just a couple grammar misnomers
