I'm guessing it is for health reasons. I don't know about soda in my school, but i know they are getting rid of all flavored milks in my school (and i think the rest of Massachusetts for next year) for the same reason.

Not sure, but that is what my parents are saying to explaining

I think it would be a good idea not to have them. We had it when I went to school and that was all. Better to have something good for you, then just a sugar drink in my opinion.

Something of a knee jerk reaction, once again, to what I assume is a health question. If you want the children in our school's to drink a healthier drink than soda, perhaps it is a better idea to educate our children on healthy choices rather than thinking that removing it from school's will solve the problem.

No flavored milk in mass schools now? I bet they'll be removing whole milk too. Only thing they did here is replace all the sodas with diet sodas which I don't care for but I don't really buy/drink all that much soda anyway.

No, I don't think these laws should be there. I think that kids need to be able to make their own choices, and have proper education to do so, which, as they say, starts at home, and that is the only way they will learn anything. They need to decide for themselves whether or not they want to be healthy, or morbidly obese. If you can't make your own choices and mistakes, then how will you learn anything?

I don't think that it is fair to treat everyone as though they are some 500 lb kid who can't walk 2 feet without needing a rest or an oxygen tank. We had kids like that in my school, and a lot of kids made fun of that person.

Many kids saw what that kid had to go through and they decided for themselves that they didn't want to be like that, and chose to be active and made healthier choices regarding the foods they ate.

As for the fat kid, they got their act together, and decided that they didn't want to be the fat kid anymore. They took responsibility for the role that their unhealthy choices have had where their obesity was concerned, and they did something about it, they had the support from their parents, and from the school to actually do something about their weight.

In my high school, we had soda in school, chocolate milk, and when it was a holiday where we'd be off for a bit, we had holiday cookies with our lunch, and ices when it was hot in the summer.. We also had a school store that sold candy and things like chips, fruit snacks, bagels, sandwiches kind of like a mini 7-11..

Do you know what else we had?

Gym class, weight training and a plethora of physical activities that you could join.. the sky was the limit where phys. ed. and where extracurricular activities were concerned.. the kids also had social lives and actually hung out with their friends after school..

In those days, the parents were actually active participants in their kids lives and didn't just sit them in front of a tv, or allow them to play video games all the time..

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against video games, in fact, I am as big of a gamer now, as I was back then, but I was also active as well, and video games were more or less a rainy day or extremely cold or hot weather day activity.

The parents back then actually encouraged them to go out and be active, and the craziest thing of all, was that they actually cooked for their families too, rather than having take out on speed dial or taking them to fast food restaurants.

People actually knew that fast food wasn't healthy, and that was why they either ate it on rare occasions, or they didn't eat it at all. If a person put on some weight, did they go on a suing spree where snack manufacturers and fast food restaurants are concerned? No, they didn't. They got off their fat ass, and hit the gym and lost the weight.

They didn't bother with suing because, they knew that no one put a gun to their head and forced them to eat the fast food, let alone go there in the first place. They knew that the fast food wasn't healthy when they decided to eat it, and that weight gain and other ailments would be a possibility. They actually took responsibility for their own actions and eating habits.

It is amazing how much things have changed in just 11 years.. well it isn't so much as amazing as it is pathetic and incredibly sad. Quite frankly, I am sick of seeing laws like this pop up accommodating the lazy and stupid.

The great thing about being in this country is that we actually have the freedom to make our own choices, but how can we continue to be a country that symbolizes freedom, if we are constantly removing a person's ability to choose for themselves, and creating laws to restrict a person's freedom?

I agree. Laws like this one simply aren't the answer; education is. The kids will just eat or drink whatever they want at home anyway.

i would say no, but this wont work
what will they do search every kid and ensure they don't have a can of coke.

when a school banned junk food in England parents did runs to schools and started dealing in Junk food lol

They already do that in every other state, only difference is the type of coke.

No that's ridiculous. As Snobo said they need to be educated, don't just take it away. Because then they will want it more which means drinking more outside of school.

Our school policy is water only in a clear container..so stupid IMO.

Exactly. Kids should make a choice. I mean half the time people who eat at fast food places day in and day out know the risks. They're eating there at their own discretion. they should try eating veggies once and a while. it all comes down to choice. if you constantly eat something thats bad for you, well you know the consequences...
