Hello everyone.

I used a website known as 000webhost in order to host a forum I wanted to create. It gave me the url - mustjustdiscuss.netai.net

Somewhere in the upload process I must have messed up because when clicking that url it takes me to a page that says Index of and I have to click some text that says upload/ in order to access my forum. That brings me to http://mustjustdiscuss.netai.net/Upload/

Luckily though the forum itself seems to work and exist.

This was my first time ever attempting to use a web host or create a forum (hence why I took the free route for now). I'd like to know if anyone knows how I could possibly make that first url link only to the forum and not that other page. Also is there a way to get rid of /upload at the end of my forum's url.

I'd also like to mention that I will be purchasing a custom .com domain soon so I'm wondering if that would be a solution to my problem as well although I'm also new to the world of domains.

Thank you very much for reading this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you need anymore information about the process I wernt through to get the forum up and running then let me know and I'll try my best.

EDIT:

Okay now suddenly nothing is working.

They're sending me an e-mail saying

We have detected that your account executing a slow MySQL queries.

Username: a2472947
Domain: mustjustdiscuss.netai.net
Database: a2472947_must71
MySQL User: a2472947_jer9001
MySQL Query: select `table_name` from information_schema.tables

Slow MySQL queries are not allowed, because you share server resources with thousands of other users and your long lasting MySQL queries are slowering the server and other users are having MySQL performance and connectivity problems. Please optimize your MySQL queries as soon as possible.
Here are some good articles how to optimize MySQL queries: http://www.google.com/search?q=optimize+mysql+queries

Good tips how you can optimize your scripts and make our servers run faster:
- Disable all parts of your website that allows anonymous posting, such as open forums, guestbooks. These days automated software fills all open areas of web with junk and content spam and increasing your database size.
- Disable visitors monitoring and tracking (each move of your visitor makes database query)
- Disable all unused website modules
- Disable internal stats for your website - use http://www.google.com/analytics/ for example
- You may also logon to the phpMyAdmin and check which table has the most records. Then, if you think that this table does not contain any valuable information (just contains logs, stats or cache), you can click on the `Empty` or `Truncate` to clean it.

We thank you for understanding,

Looks like they don't like forums.

I strongly recommend you stay away from 000webhost. Check out this thread.

Some good hosting providers:
https://www.hawkhost.com/ -- Paid, but cheap and very good.
http://icyboards.com/ -- Free forum host. Uses MyBB.
http://www.forumotion.com/ -- Free forum host. Uses phpBB.
http://www.zetaboards.com/ -- My favorite free host personally, although they use their own software.

Thank you for the response Matt. 🙂

I have definitely learned my lesson about 000webhost.

As for the other hosts, I tried icyboards but their Mybb plugin availability was not to my satisfaction and they were practically forcing namecheap as the goto domain provider. Not that I have anything wrong with namecheap, it's just I had found better deals with godaddy or straight from hosting providers themselves.

Forumotion and Zetaboards are cool and all but I'm obsessed with Mybb right now.

I'd like to ask you a bit about Hawkhost if you don't mind.

First off I'd like to say their prices are quite reasonable.

My concern is how easy it will be to set up a Mybb forum with them and will I be able to add any plugins I please?

I want to be sure that I won't have any troubles with Mybb and Hawkhost if I'm going to be using my birthday money for it.

Would it meet these requirements? http://docs.mybb.com/1.8/install/requirements/ (I don't understand what any of the requirements mean but I've learned if the host has them, it defintely works)

I had been thinking of using MyBBWebhost.com because it seemed like it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to set up my forum that way. They were a bit more expensive than what I'd get with Hawkhost so if I can get away with Hawkhost that would be great. Although they were going to let me use a prepaid american express giftcard. Will Hawkhost let me use a preaid card?

I'm just not experienced with this stuff at all. Took me quite awhile to succesfully get my files onto 000webhost. (only to find out they didn't like me using their databases for a forum and they sucked anyways).

Re: Messed up on subdomain when creating mybb forum

With HawkHost, they have softaculous, so you should be able to log into their control panel and install MyBB with a few clicks. They will definitely meet the requirements for installing it. 🙂 They also have FTP, phpMyAdmin, a file manager, etc. so shouldn't be too hard to install it manually if you need to.

They use cPanel, which is the best web hosting control panel around. Most cPanel hosts are pretty similar in regards to how easy/difficult it is to install stuff. cPanel is definitely the best in that regard though.

Thank you for your wonderful continued advice. I am so glad I found this website.

So I have succesfully made my purchase at Hawkhost.

Although now it's telling me I have no actives domains and no active products/services even though my order confirmation email says I paid for "Shared Hosting - Primary" and the domain "mustjustdiscuss.com"

Maybe it just takes awhile but I wish it would say that.

EDIT - There I go not reading things again. At the bottom of my e-mail it says "How long does it take to setup my account and takes me to a page that says it usually takes about 1-2 hours and up to 12 on weekends."

Looks like I'm all set for now. I'll check on it again tomorrow.

You'll probably see me making topics later throughout my process though as I continue to not read things properly. xD

Seeming as this is marked as solved, I'm going to archive this for now. 🙂
