Hello guys, pretty new to this so I'm going to let this be short.

Question one: What is the difference between a VPS, a Dedicated Server, a Private Cloud Server, and so on and what can you do with them?

Question two: How will I be able to host my forum (if I have one) on a VPS, a Dedicated Server or a Private Cloud Server?

More questions coming up... thanks for answering

1. They are all pretty much offer you one thing, that is host ur site. 😉
VPS: It is short for Virtual Private Server, it's like a private server but not as full blown as a dedicated server. It's like a small server inside a dedicated server.

Dedicated Server: It is a server which you own but is located somewhere else. It is a full server, all the ram, CPU is only used by you yourself. Nobody else shares that server with you.

Ans2. It's tough for a newbie to manage a VPS,dedicated.... cause it requires lot's of experience in SSH, and linux server administration. You have to manage the server in command line.
Here's a piece of my favorite code which I once used on root directory when I was a n00b
Code:
rm - rf *

You would need to have a deep experience with how the linux system works and what all files you need to edit and what all to install on your server.

I don't think a vps or a dedicated would be good for you at the moment, i would advise you to get a shared hosting to host your site and while having ur site hosted get some experience with SSH and linux. Then you will be good to go. 🙂

I think a managed VPS is the best option for someone who new to these. It's just like shared hosting and provider would take care of all technical problems. Also when you use a Top VPS hosting service they respond very fast to your support tickets.

I have 2 managed VPS (50$ and 25$) and 1 un-manage VPS (10$)

If you're just starting up a forum, I would absolutely recommend using a shared hosting account and work towards a managed VPS when in demand.

This is what I did,

1) Free hosting (didn't last long there. not once forum started active)
2) Cheap shared hosting ( lasted around 5-6 month there)
3) Godaddy shared hosting ( If you dont have money to go for a VPS which cost u at least 25$ per month, using Godaddy or Hostgator is the best option u have)
4) VPS - Not every forum last till this strange. (By now you better have a good plan to earn money from forum at least enough to cover hosting fees)

It's not hard to find advertisers for an active forum. If you have 5 ads which each priced as 5$ per month you can get good VPS. Sadly some webmaster simply give up think forums are not profitable.

Also Wherever you guys host make sure to take daily backups. Don't relay on Hosting providers to do it even they promise so.

If I'm just starting up, I'd rather go with a shared server. Just to get to know the feel on how everything works.

If you're just starting up a website, I'd definitely recommend getting a Shared Hosting plan and then move your way up from there. It will be more budget friendly in my opinion 🙂

VPS resources are dedicated to your account but its still shared on a dedicated server. The physical server have better capacity if you are utilizing on for your website. You can gain more traffic or audience on a dedicated server as the same time. VPS may not as efficient in case of heavy traffic as dedicated server could.

I think a new forum with shared hosting is good. I am using my friend's new forum and it is really acceptable. 🙂
