Well i hope some of my tips can be useful to you.

1. I new a site that spammed Msn,Bebo,MySpace accounts aka project Account Attack. It works.
2. Make sure your theme relates to what your site is.
3. Keep it basic. No fancy stuff like 3 banners ect..
4. Don't use loads of smilies.Keep a maximum of 10 smilies all simple.
5. Have a clear out every month.Delete inactive members,100 days old posts, clear logs.
6. Be nice and kind to members or they will go :twistedman: .
7. Memebrs,Posts and topic aren't always the thing that makes your forum it's quality.
8. Get a paid domain.No crap ones like co.cc or co.nr they go ~!~ ~!~ ~!~
9. Have a portal or a flash for your forum.

And thats it really. All of these worked for me.

Please comment back if they worked for you.

Good stuff, I especially agree with the clearing out of old posts and inactive members. Definitely be nice and respectful to the members!

What i ment by spamming is on Social Networks such as Bebo, Tagged.
Here you can find LoveBots, spammers ect..
www.aciidforums.com , if you do register please say you were refered by iHAXX.

Why would you delete 100day old posts, and archives sometimes usefull?? They don't bother anybody...

Also, why would you need flash or a portal before your forum? It sure looks good, but won't that require another extra click to get to your content?

Yea.. I actually do not agree with almost any of these tips..

1. I new a site that spammed Msn,Bebo,MySpace accounts aka project Account Attack. It works.

^^^ No.. This gives your forum a bad reputation. BAD idea! ^^^
2. Make sure your theme relates to what your site is.

More or less true.. Though I have used a dark style for a Christian forum and it attracted alot of members.. Pretty much, just don't use a paintballing style for a pretty pony forum.. ~wink~

3. Keep it basic. No fancy stuff like 3 banners ect..

^^ duh.. ^^
4. Don't use loads of smilies.Keep a maximum of 10 smilies all simple.

This depends on alot of things.. This site has many more than just ten.. But as they are small, they don't seem over.. umm.. smiliefied.

TIP, if you're site has the option to make special smilies appear in a pop-up window.. USE it! Just keep the basics for easy access..

5. Have a clear out every month.Delete inactive members,100 days old posts, clear logs.
This depends on the type of forum.. But for the most part, this is a bad idea.. Esp. if you are just starting out.. Guests look for content. If your forum has been open for a year and you have only 5k posts.. They would drift away.. I know I would.. Same with membership.. They aren't hurting anything.. Just leave them be.. You never know, send out a newsletter with your link at the bottom and they might come back!

6. Be nice and kind to members or they will go :twistedman: .

More importantly, find the perfect balance between kindness and leadership. Do not let members get away with anything. If you don't stand for something.. Well, they will kill you.. ~lol~

7. Memebrs,Posts and topic aren't always the thing that makes your forum it's quality.
Agreed.

8. Get a paid domain.No crap ones like co.cc or co.nr they go ~!~ ~!~ ~!~
I have no clue on this.. though I don't see why it would make a difference.. If your site is doing well with a co.cc domain, keep it for heaven's sake! domain names are becoming less and less important.. What matters is the text inside of the domain name. Lets use me for an example.. revolutionforums is a horrible name for a Christian forum. Why? It doesn't contain any religious words in it at all.. In fact it relates more to politics than religion. If it was .org or .com, it doesn't matter.. (I personally liked the .org ending so I used it.. 😛 )

9. Have a portal or a flash for your forum.

Not needed at all.. As stated above, this just adds an extra click before they reach your forum. The only benefit I know of for this is to put those pesky affiliate buttons that directories give you to place on your site.. That was my only use for my portal when I had one.. And no one ever used it.. We had a chatbox on it that was never used.. -roll-

Why would you want a portal, I always find them annoying myself. As it is as stated an extra step. I have only ever used them for a chat. And that is because I never scroll down to the bottom where the chats on many forums I use are.

Actually, no... its social media optimization. It doesn't hurt your forum to casually spam your link on a facebook or myspace etc. Just make sure the link is within text or a paragragh, then make friends and ask them to jin your site etc. not like: "CLICK THIS LINK <<<<<< CLICK IT NOW!"

8. Get a paid domain.No crap ones like co.cc or co.nr they go ~!~ ~!~ ~!~

Domain names are not becoming less important, getting a TLD is one of my basic tips for having a successful site/forum. It's a more permanent fix rather then .co.cc, a lot of potential members get turned off from 'temporary' domains.
