Someone keeps trying to register to my forum, it is being blocked by stopforumspam as they are a spammer. They keep trying to register and I keep rejecting, what can I do? I use XF btw.
If the forum is continuing to reject them, what's the issue?
You can go into the ACP, get the IP if it's been tied to anything, and block it so they can't even get to the register page, but if they can't make an account I don't know if their IP will be attached to anything.
Stopforum spam is quite good for this reason, but anyone can submit to the site, so it takes one person who doesn't like someone to submit and IP and that's it
Oh so you want to let this person onto your site that SFS is stopping?
Try having them use a different username (and you can try changing it later) or maybe have them go through a proxy just to register. SFS shouldn't keep blocking them once the account is made.
You can also register the account for them - either in the ACP or by actually logging out and registering it - and then giving the member the password to change later.
This happens to me as well. It shouldn't prevent them from registring, but it sets them to admin approval. All I did was just manually activate the account. If that doesn't work, set all of the registrations to admin approval, then manually activate the account in the ACP. 🙂
One other thing you can do that hasn't been mentioned yet is to lower the strictness of your plugin, if there's a setting for that. I believe there is one on MyBB, but I'm not sure about Xenforo. If you're getting too many false positives, or too many spammers, you can adjust your plugins/anti-spam measures as necessary.
