I had an idea for a mod for a forum but lack that specific skill or time to produce it and thought i'd post it so maybe one of the many talented people on this forum could make it a reality. Note this isn't a mod request, just an idea!
Quick and Full registration

When you click Register, it takes you to a page that has two buttons asking "Which form of registration would be suit you?" buttons "Quick" "Full".

Quick registration only requires username, password, email, captcha (administrator prefrences as well)

Full includes all those in Quick + profile fields such as avatar, name, gender, other form questions for the profile.

why not use the existing one and Just fill out only them 3 fields?.

Seems something rather easy to make (obviously if you have the programming skills). I may look into this, but can't you already modify the registration form?

[user]Zaros[/user], the idea is that people could optionally fill them out during registration. Two forms of registration for two types of people.

I'm in love with this idea.

The real part that needs work is the plugin. A sample "simple" registration page would look like this. Thoughts?

I like the idea of this. I might make it a side project of mine, assuming no one else has actually started coding it yet.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think on most forums there's already an option to make profile fields mandatory or not.

You can already say what fields a person gets when they register. PhpBB specific, you can add or remove fields. However, this mod allows a quick registration for people like the Package Team here to register fast. The quick is a skeleton profile while the full is avatar, website, signature, etc. All the other glamorous stuff.

I've actually worked on something similar. It's easier just to have a prompt after registration (and e-mail activation if forced) asking them to fill out information about their profile. As a courtesy, make the "Skip button" visible. 🙂

I would be careful with that though. Many feel that their privacy has been violated when they see fields with personal information automatically filled in (even if they have to click submit first).

To be totally honest, this is why I don't like FB login, and for this reason.
