Bet they'll overprice it like they always do. In this case don't see anything wrong just emulating it on the PC.
If it is a re-release. Be way cool if they updated the look.

I got this for free since I'm a PSN+ Subscriber - it's just the original game which has been available on Xbox Live Arcade for a loong time. Which isn't a bad thing, it's a lot of fun!
If this is a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) then I may have to shoot myself.

Well you're in luck then, this game is just a port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Genesis/Megadrive game from the 90's. 😛
Then I will get my actual megadrive out and play it 😛
Would that even work on a modern TV? Maybe with a composite lead or modulator or something. 😛
Works just fine lol. Besides, if that didn't work I would just stick on my sonic mega collection plus for the xbox lol
