Spam Bots

It's not really a great video... It shows people forums easily being spammed -lol-

Interesting video. Fortunately though, with forum software becoming more advanced, and Administrators recruiting more Moderators spam bots are rarely an issue on up-to-date forums these days.

The sole reason freeforums.org don't have a directory of the top 10 forums is because the top 3,000+ forums are full of spam bots. I was chatting with Aaronium (FF Tech Team) one night on msn, who told me and liam that the top 3,000+ top forums have about 3 million posts on each - nothing but pure spam from porn to viagra.

Yeah, interesting is more of a better word. CAPTCHA stops it though.

I really don't understand how some ppl find spamming amusing!
What are they trying to achieve?
Most of the spam post gets deleted anyway...

I once got in a fight with google, msn, and yahoo bots on this one forum. They started a post saying they loved the forum and it went on and on post after post with REAL people telling them stuff and being nice..and randomly a bot said that they were going to go get a taco.

And I posted telling the bots that I took all the tacos and ate them all. Then they removed my website from their search engines -🙁-

That's very well, but to my knowledge no spam bot has been able to get through the phpBB3 CAPTCHA, and even if they do there's no way they could get through custom profile fields etc..
You missed out the word "Yet". Give it time and i am sure a way will be found like it always has been. VB have started having spam issues with people getting through re-CAPTCHA... Whether it is somebody finding a way around re-CAPTCHA or some other way like a problem with the vb registration or humans mass spamming vb forum or atleast signing up then the bots logging in and posting i don't know.

The first link signals that they are human. The second suggests a trap that stopped them signing up which signalled they were actually bots

Even though it is a different software it shows that spammers are finding ways to still spam whether it is bots or not but nothing is impossible and with all the rewards available and the availability of phpBB and the number of installations there is, the spammers always look for ways to spam and they would try hard to find a way around the anti-spam measures of any software and however they do it they have found a way to mass-spam vb forums with re-CAPTCHA which is very widely used.

Those types of bots will never get through vb as it has image verification! ;D

My board - which is a phpbb 2.0.23 - has an anti-bot question to be answered. I've had hits on my site coming from porn sites ~ most likely the spam bots. Not one has registered.

The best way is to make your registration page unique.

Give it time and i am sure bots will be alot smarter then humans. Technology is ever improving and humans if anything are doing the opposite -lol-
