SPAM on forum, what can I do?

Ok the style I am using is what I want to use for the future of my board. But since it hasn't been updated to phpBB 3.0.6 (currently on 3.0.4) I cannot use reCaptcha or any other anti-spam plugin for the registrations.

I have had to turn on email activiation for the time being which I hate because I don't want the users to go through all the trouble of logging into their email account to just click a link.

Does anyone know how I could update the style so I can start using reCaptcha? I could on my other skin but I don't want to use that.

Or does anyone know of any other ways to reduce the SPAM I have been receiving. They are getting past the normal Captcha.

You can upgrade it wont ruin the style. 😉

You need to update the style. There is nothing else you can do. It will add all the new features aswell such as the captcha plugins, feeds, report pm and so on.

How would I go about updating the style? I am not really used to phpBB, I have only ever ran vBulletin.

Would I just update the stlye with the prosilver/subsilver template files?

Usually custom styles have altered the template files so it is best not to do that.

It is a good idea to keep up to data as you now have to lots of edits to do.

Really you should update your board as old versions have exploits (and hackers look in the change logs as phpBB post the exploits and their fixes) and new versions have updates for Anti-Spam. 😉
