I've been getting a lot of spam lately on www.fpsforum.net.

I'm using the standard spam prevention methods at the moment, but are there any add-ons I should be installing?

Are you checking the StopForumSpam database when users register (ACP > Options > Spam Management)? I find this prevents a lot of spam registrations, as many have already had their details recorded in the database.

Yes, this is my current SFS setup: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0f432rjd70

Would you recommend altering anything?

No, that all seems fine to me.

I've never tried any addons so I can't tell you to use them/not to use them, but I don't think they will give you any more protection than what xF has built in. Maybe it is just a problem you're going to have to deal with. 🙁

I have used Key Captcha and seems to work great against spammers.

I would hire more admins and mods that could be on a lot and help with any spam comments. That way if someone spams a mod or admin can warn them.

Also on my forums I have it set to where when a member posts something I have to approve their topic before everyone else on the website can see it. The user thinks their forum post has already been posted but it really hasn't been posted until approved

That's a very manual job which shouldn't be needed - and the latter option is not possible if you're receiving a high volume of posts.

I use reCAPTCHA, basically, you have to put together a jigsaw picture (4 pieces max) which prevents spammers signing up. You could try that 🙂

I did that but they still got through 😛

Try some questions & answers, if that's possible. Having a question which asks "Are you a spambot?" has been insanely effective for me.

Not even joking, had all of that in place :S

Another trick I used was changing the question field to a checkbox and using a name along the lines of terms or tos in the HTML to confuse the bots. While having an obvious "Are you a spambot?" question for the humans to see.

Not sure if you can do that in XenForo.
If not then, someone should consider making some sort of plugin for it.

Visit the XenForo support forum and view available spam add-ons and seek advice there as someone may be able to help you.
