Spam prevention?

Running MyBB.

I'm getting tons and tons of spambots - Like 10 or more daily.

And they post.

I don't want to keep cleaning up my forum, so any ideas to keep spambots out? So far, I've got CAPTCHA and a question asking if the registration is coming from a bot.

Update to 1.6.5 and activate the hidden captcha. It's amazing. It also has reCAPTCHA now. I haven't had a single bot sign up since.

I suggest using Question and Answer or reCaptcha. reCaptcha is the best captcha code.

reCAPTCHA is default now so that helps a lot. With MyBB adding the hidden captcha I don't feel the question and answer is even needed. I haven't had a single bot since 1.6.5.

That's not exactly a smiley face but okay.

Anyway, of course it's been cracked, but most spambots probably can't get through...yet.

I use Registration Security Question [MYBB] it definetly helps alot! I don't see spam bots coming now 🙂

For phpBB, I was getting 50ish spambot posts a day.. Then I used the Q&A for phpBB and then I had no spambots since. Just choose a question related to your niche.

I used "😀" because I dont use reCaptcha anymore!
...using the old-skool "Q/A"s to prevent them 😛

Askimet works really well on my mybb fforum- it's quite tough, but if set right it can remove almost all your spam without affecting members too much.

It can also ban your members and insult them by calling them spammers too. :lol:
Its happened to me while just regularly posting on some mybb forum. Don't trust a robot to do a human's job. 😛

^This. Akismet isn't best choice for Forum spam prevention.
