How do you get rid of spammers? These aren't spambots but childish spammers that seem to hate me as they always use JakJak in their username. The newest is jakjakizadumbass I hate these childish people. I would use the spambot MODs but these aren't spambots. They even think it's funny what they do. 🙁

If you want to ban him from IP, go to

Admin Panel >> Users and Groups >> Ban IPs

Type jakjakizadumbass' IP Address in the "IP Addresses or hostname" textbox

Then fill in the rest...

Any software's banning / restriction features are pretty much useless seeing as there are ways to bypass, whether it be via proxy or multiple accounting etc...

Best way to stop being trolled is to be patient. Make sure you've got Email activation turned on and keep banning the Email accounts they use to register. Doing this will force the spammer to create a new Email account every time they want to create a new account on your forum - this will frustrate them sooner or later. Also if you notice them sign up from spam Email sites like [email protected] just put a wildcard ban on @spam.la (*@spam.la)...stopping anyone registering an Email from that site.

You can almost guarantee they'll be back with a different account sooner or later. The important thing is to make to make sure they don't know it's annoying you. Coolly just brush them aside and carry on business as usual. Spammers / trollers look for a reaction such as an announcement saying "We're under attack" or something similar...if you don't give them the satisfaction sooner or later they'll get bored and leave. 😉

It's not just me they annoy. My staff get annoyed by them which gives them freedom as they think if the staff get annoyed they will leave and the forum will be closed. I've added a global topic regarding spammers. 🙂

That's exactly the opposite of what you should be doing. Once they see that topic they'll know they've succeeded and will continue annoying you. Like I said in my post above, don't give them the satisfaction by posting these kind of topics. Just keep banning their Emails / IPs and keep going on pretending they're not there.

Well, if your staff can't handle a little but of trolling then maybe you should think about replacing them.

Outspam them is what I would do, then when they get bored just get rid of the crap. As long as they don't post anything malicious humoring them shouldn't be a problem.

At this stage of the game, all you can do is ban them again, and perhaps delete their accounts along with all of their posts. If there's a lot of them, have a moderator help you. If it happens again, escalate the situation by logging their IP addresses.

Troll back and find out what forum they came from. LOL

Just keep banning them and they will stop

It was Luke. He tried to change all the style files. 😉

Luke is the worlds worst web host admin. It's sad how he thinks it is 'hacking' when he has access to everyones accounts and such in WHM.

Well, while that is immature on their part, that may be because you have pissed off a lot of, albeit immature, people. Find out why they are pissed at you (if you don't know already) and then change your behavior for the better.

For example, if you have a huge reputation for mistreating and disrespecting the staff and members on your forum, then you may want to publicly apologize (and without b.s. excuses, just own up to your behavior) to anyone who still stuck around, and learn to treat your members with respect and as they deserve to be treated. This way, when these users come around your forum with these names, and they see that you are not the person that someone else said you were, then the original person will look like an ass, lose credibility, and who knows maybe the attacks will stop.

However, whether that is or isn't the case, you still shouldn't be disrespected like that, and that is not to say that you wont run into the occasional a-hole who just wants to start trouble. What I would suggest, is that, first, turn on admin validation. This way you can preview all accounts, before you validate them. People can very easily register email accounts that are defaming you, provided that they don't contain obscenities. At least if you have on admin validation, you'd HAVE to manually approve or deny each account.

Second, if possible, add your username to the word filters, this way you'd at least be able to prevent anyone from using it (much like obscenities) in their usernames. This shouldn't affect the quote feature on your forum, but just in case, you should make a test board with the same software, and then test it out. You should also add the names you've seen so far, to the banned list.

Third, temporarily disable their accounts, so you could then wildcard ban their ip addresses from the forum, you should be able to keep banning the ips as they keep making new accounts. However, if you have a limited amount of space then this could be a problem. You should also make a note in a private area, viewable only to you (such as a textfile on your computer) of what ip addresses were associated with which offensive accounts. This way you would know if it is one person, or many others. And if it is one person doing it, then you might be able to file a complaint with their isp.

Finally, you could then delete their accounts. This way you will have all of the names banned from the forum and no one can re-register them once they've been deleted.

I also agree with the poster who said that making a global topic is a bad idea. That just encourages their behavior.
