Imagine a member on your forum has a birthday, wedding or a similar celebration approaching.

What do you do? Would you just do an ordinary post to say 'Happy Birthday' or would you use a gif like this?

When new members join the forum and have made an introductory post I also use a welcome gif such as

welcome11.gif

I would prefer the members, especially staff, took the time to type out a more personal message, rather than a copy/pasted image.

I really hate "welcome" smilies on intro replies, too. Especially from staff. It's really lazy.

I should add that I include a personal message with the gif.

I wasn't meaning that towards you specifically. 😛

I thought you were asking in general. Which do i prefer.

I know you weren't referring to me bud. I just wanted to add that in as an afterthought.

I usually just say something like, "Welcome to Marie 1988 and enjoy your stay!" or something along those lines. I don't mind using the Welcome smileys, as long as it's not overdone, and as long as every last post doesn't have one. It's more personal if you type out your welcome rather than using an image.

I find an image that relates to that member particularly and then post a Birthday message aswell!

Same here. Its always fun to make someone feel special. :cheer:

I would congrats birthday or winning a competition with ordinary messages.. images can be pretty annoying especially when you take it from photobucket.. because when u don't use it no more they make this BIG BOXES about ur account exceeded limit or something.. it's just cluttering up forum imo. I don't against the idea though.
