Special treatment

You ever wonder if specific members who become staff on multiple forums just do it because they want the attention and special perks through staff but do nothing? It just boils down to them having moderator privileges, a colorful name, and perhaps some fame on the forum for having been promoted? A good example is a member who goes on forums and is a staff member on at least 3-4 forums. A big difference is that you will notice they are either more active on their own or one other forum, but largely neglect your forum because they spread themselves thin.

Yeah, I wonder it everyday. You cannot help but wonder if your staff are there just for the name and the color. If they own their own forum I don't mind them being a little more active, but depending on the job you have at hand and the responsibilities you have on another forum, being too inactive or "not caring" will eventually just ruin the forum. I've come acrossed it before, and I literally fired my entire moderation team once because of it. 😛 They just didn't care about the job and were simply posting because I required them too. They did their job, but they didn't do it well nor did they do it like they actually wanted to do it. Of course it put more pressure on myself, however in the end the community was overall better with just me running it because at least I cared, you know?

We eventually hired some mods that liked doing their job and it's been fine ever since, but honestly I don't think any admin/owner out there hasn't gone a day without thinking about the staff members they have and wondering if they are just there because they want to be or just there because they get a fancy name.

Me: I've been staff on so many forums to really care about the special perks. etc
