Do you like to focus on getting staff from your country or are you one to not bother about that type of thing? I have my co-administrator from the same city/country I'm from.

I try to get people from different parts of the world to have staff coverage for the forum around the clock. Ideally I'd have at least one from the USA/Canada, Europe & Australia/New Zealand. Ive had that in the past but now its just USA & UK staffers.
However, I would not just hire someone because of where they live. They have to be the right person for the job and if they happen to live in a desirable location, then that's just a bonus for the forum. 😛

I've never actually started a huge enough forum where I needed a timezone spread out staff... Maybe once on accident. On codegreen I had an admin in the east coast and a mod in Sweden. 🙂

But having all of your staff all in the the same timezone is almost pointless unless they have different schedules.

Christhchurch FTW!

I don't really mind, as I don't know people in NZ that go on forums (well many).

I feel it is best for my Co-Admin to be in easy reach of me via Cell/Phone etc in case anything happens. Plus ZINC is a good friend of mine so it's another reason why I hired him.

Though for the other position roles they would be from all over the world.

*Blushes* 😎

When I first made my own forum, I just went and added someone who ended up being really nice, but her life ended up turning for the worst and she went a little crazy.

For me it's a case of having the right skills. Though at least if you have people from around the world, you are bound to have somebody online on your forum all the time, which gives a good impression.

But I've been part of staff teams purely from the UK and from all around the world; to me is neither here or there where people are from 🙂

I try to pick the best people available for staff positions. It doesn't bother me what country they come from and sometimes I won't even know or ask. However, I do agree with theezy that it is good to have Moderators from different time zones so that there is always a Mod available to deal with spam.

I know on an older forum i had, we had staffers from various time zones and it worked out quite well. It felt good having around the clock security like that, then you know that your forum is protected even when you can't be on.

I don`t mind where my staff are from as long as they can do their job
That I think is the main thing

Same with me , I didnt really think about time zones all of my staff members are from the UK , I only have one though (hi James )

Staff working from your home part-time is the best option. Outsourcing is cheap but lower output.

I try to get people from my same time zones but its kind of hard. The closest I've gotten was by 2 hours.

Agreeing with this. Easier to communicate as well.

It a member of staff does theyre job properly then I am not fussed where they come from.

Currently I have 3 staff members from England (Including me) One from the US and one from Nepal.

Currently, the staff and I are from the same country. However I have had staff members from different countries.

It doesn't matter a whole lot for me, but I actually like to get staff from different time zones. I can't be on the forum 24/7, and it's good to know that a staff member is watching the forum for you when you'd normally be asleep.
