What is your approach when you have a Staff member who is either negative or resistant to anything, or they want you to suit them rather than them molding to what's going on? I always come into a position of being there for the forum/site and realize that while I might not always like it, it's much bigger than just me and so the changes made could be better for the community. It's up to me to be a team player, rather than letting a negative attitude spill out and it hurts the forum.

I personally try to explain the benefits of certain changes or additions that could be added. Certain things could be difficult to adjust to, but could benefit a forum as a whole. The biggest issue I have with staff who resist, is that they generally don't think they will be able to understand the change, after it has been added; even if the change had been explained before hand.

I just make them happy more than anything, doesn't matter if they are sexy or what. But you can't please everyone 😛

Are you asking from the perspective of the forum admin? Or as a user?

For every business, for every organization to every forum. Adaptability and thriving on change should be the requirement that every business/forum should have. If staff aren't able to adapt or willing to thrive on change then neither can you. So if you have staff members that aren't willing then I'd say have them be removed.

I agree with this! When I worked I was told to adapt as much as possible if I wanted to remain employed (it was a contract position) so I learned as much as I could and NEVER said No. The reason I was told to not say No is because I needed to say I'll look into it and then while looking into things I had to quickly learn to do what they needed and then say Yes.

Sometimes people can get caught up on tiny things and let that destroy relationships. I remember a staffer at another site who complained about some things in our censor and ended up getting so mad that we wouldn't cave to his thinking that he eventually quit. I think a lot of guys can be that way where they need to be Alpha or else.

Opinions are like buttholes......everyone's got one.

I understand that everyone has an opinion and that not everyone is going to agree all the time. But if all the staff is accepting to the change but one......well, that one can either change with everyone else or just not be a staff member anymore. They don't have to like the change but if they are going to make trouble than it's best that they not be a staff member anymore.

As long as I am paying the person, I would expect them to go with the management or team decision. It is like any other job. If it pays the bills, there needs to be a way around.

To be staff on my forum I've now made it before you can even request you need at least 100 posts. I don't require over that to at least request the position but experiences in the past lead me to this decision. If someone was willing to spend 100 posts of their time on your site they are more likely to do a good job as a moderator. I am actually currently looking for staff members on my forum and that's all I require along with being a member for at least 1 week.

That's actually nice as someone who has made 100 posts must like your site then.

Any staff member that abuses his / her position should be removed. It's even worse when the owner sides with the troll mod or admin. You definitely don't want to be presently active on that forum. Your staff member or moderator represents your forum. So anything they're doing to aggravate people or if they're not doing enough. It's going to cause people to have a negative view towards your forum. Even if you've owned several failed forums, the thought might get passed around that you are not cut out to be running a forum. I think it's okay not to be cut out to run your own forum. It's repetitive and hard work. You could always moderate or police on another forum.
