Have you ever been on a forum which hired promoters as part of the staff, and had them succeed at promoting? I've noticed a few forums which do this, and am curious as to whether it works. What about people who are paid to do this?

I think the owner and staff should have promoting as a side job. Paying someone else is just plain lazy.

I've seen this before and often wondered if they do a good job or not. I'm leaning towards no, because the only thing I've ever seen these people do is advertise on forums. A lot of people don't realize that forum advertising is really only a small part of an effective advertising campaign. If you wanted to have truly effective promoters, they would need to mix in social media, paid advertising, article writing, etc. However, at that point, it would make more sense to just do the work yourself!

I've seen this a lot and from what I've observed, it never works, lol.

I feel that people who are interested in being a "promoter", simply want the title and the feeling of being part of the team... they hardly ever do the work they were hired to do.

Even if they make just a little bit of promo on YouTube, and a little on Twitter, you might get 1 or 2 people signing up. You've got nothing to lose. I didn't have any promoters on my forum, but a forum I acquired did use this technique and got about 10 referrals that way.

That is, unless you're paying them. 😛 It's a pretty rare thing to find people that actually want to work for free though, and a lot of these promoters like to think that they're experts.

I have never tried hiring people to advertise, due to believing that if I want to get my forum out there, I can do it myself without the aid of others. BUT I guess this can be effective, if those that do do this for you, are actually actively trying more than just posting on other forums, with a link back.

Indeed, which is hard to tackle. Therefore I think it's best to be done by administrators as those who know the forum best. And if they can be active at the place they advertised the forum, it raises the attention to their forum.

No kind of advertising has ever worked for me before, so I stopped trying about a year ago. We've continued to grow faster and faster despite it, so I can't imagine hiring a promoter.

Never been on a forum that does this. It might just work! I think its a pretty good idea to do that.

I've never successfully hired free staff to go and promote a forum for me. I can see why though. Why would you go and promote someone else's forum and not get anything from it? I can honestly say even if promoters were paid I don't think it would be all that successful.

I have attempted this in the past and any time I've done it or seen it tried on other forums, it didn't well. Many people take these types of positions, especially if they aren't getting paid, as an easy way onto the staff and then end up not doing anything that the job requires. They may bump an ad topic on another forum once or twice, but that isn't doing the job imo.

I prefer to do promotion myself or have other staff help out (in addition to whatever their job is on the forum itself).

I think you don't need staff promoters. If the owner and the staff start promoting, then I am sure it will make a difference. I think if you start hiring promoter, they will only do minimum work, even if you pay them.

I've never seen it work, even on the occasions of trying it myself. If you are to have this sort of group they have to be paid with a large enough budget to pick out best ad placements on other sites and managing social media accounts and such - not just asking someone to update promotion topics because there is no point in that in my opinion.

idk, advertising is really difficult for me and probably the only skill I lack
