This is something apparently some people do not have, I personally couldn't see managing a forum without a staff room. What about your forum, does it have a staff room? Is it used often? If you don't have one, where do you discuss different forum decisions?

I think a staff room is quite important as this provides a space for staff to discuss ideas. My forum does have one. If people don't have staff rooms, I guess they could use something like Skype to discuss things but I guess a staff room also have its advantages such as leaving a record of what is discussed and you don't have to wait for all staff to come online. However Skype will be quicker.

I use a staff forum and a Skype chat for staff... though the Skype is more for a casual chat instead of actual staff discussion/decision making. It's a pretty good balance, actually.

I couldn't imagine not having a staff forum to communicate to the team though.

I'm actually not sure that I've ever been a moderator on a forum without a staff room of some kind. Pretty useful.

I really like the idea of skype chats for a forum's staff. They promote a sense of community among the staff members, and allow for instant communication. It's a good way to reach a staff member faster than PM, and to engage in a more interesting and fast-paced discussion.

Staff rooms are extremely essential. I use the staff room here to plan future FP events, keep a to-do list, and communicate with our staff members. It's a central place for staff to get information regarding their duties and expectations, as well as general forum procedures.

I don't want to imagine how Forum Promotion would run without its Staff Room. 😛

I believe it's called Skype

Skype is definitely a valuable asset to have. However, holding staff guidelines, training threads, tracking, drafts, templates, and announcements would not be viable through Skype. It would take a lot of extra work to send files through Skype.

While it's possible, it's certainly not a viable option to just use Skype to run a community that has so much going on behind the scenes.

I agree with TF on this. While there are some things that you can do with Skype, you can always have discussions with your staff without having to make sure that all your staff are online at the same time. Especially if you and the rest of your staff are all in different time zones. With the difference in time zones, it can make it more difficult for everyone to be online all at the same time because that makes everybody's schedule different. Plus, like some people have mentioned before, you can always keep track of what has been discussed in a "staff only room" on the forum easier than trying to remember what has been discussed on Skype.

I can't really imagine a forum without some sort of staff room, but maybe having a Skype chat would work for some forums.

I have a staff room. I hate being staff on forums that don't have a section just for staff. There are things that need to be discussed from all staff and not everyone has social media or skype so they can just check the staff room for updates or things that need feedback etc.

Of course I have a staff room, I don't think a forum is complete without it. Sometimes you just need to post threads that can only be seen my staff. Sure, you have skype and that gets the job done however I'd much rather post it in a thread, on the staff board, it just seems more official and easier. That, and how else are you going to cheat your way into post counts?

Meh. I do have a staff forum on my board, but we never use it. We (staff) discuss stuff wherever. Too lazy to go post in the staff board. 😀

I do have a staff section, but since I'm my only staff atm there's nothing really going on there 🙂

I do admin another forum (I have admin privileges but I'm not involved with updates and such things, I'm more of a moderator by task but with the added access), that does not have a staff section now, although there was one when I started out.
We do use slack for most of our conversations, slack logs them as well, and there's a private jabber server as well for us to reach out to each others when needed.

Topics and related matters are so much easier to manage with a separate staff board.
