Starting a forum on PunBB?

So I have been thinking about opening up a new forum in a month or two once AdminCentral is going steady and I actually am considering using PunBB. The forum is I guess going to be counted as a general niche. I am aiming for a nice community that just discusses anything about anything, life, the internet, whatever.

It sounds like a normal general forum but I that's where PunBB comes in. I want to bring it back to the basics, where people are on the forum to talk with a nice group of people about whatever is on there mind, not a general forum that tries to pack a bunch of features in to keep people coming back.
(Anyone here running genreal forums don't take offence to that, I'm not saying everyone.)

I understand this sort of forum will take a lot of work to get going but I am willing to do that.


Tell me what you think about going back to the basics with PunBB, notthing feature packed, something really about the community.

I say go for it. You're a good administrator so I can see it taking off. Maybe not quickly but in the long run it will. And it doesn't matter what software you use as it's your forum. You own it and no one else does.

I took a look through punBB, it's nice. If you were going to consider it, look into the potential security flaws, it was abandoned a few times and a few mistakes have been made 🙂

Yeah, I understand that. That is was big thing I have been considering. I may even finish my my software and use it for this website. Make it as simple as I want and very individual yet still how I mentioned in my first post.

Forget PunBB, go with FluxBB. It's much nicer and a more developed version.

A few things I would need to modify if using either of them but I will see.
