Note: Not sure if this goes here but back on topic.

Me and my friends are trying to start up a gaming community but we do not have much experience in managing/setting one up. I myself know a fair bit about game development based websites focused on a specific thing and website coding but not much about a community based website.

Just looking for some tips, and thank you for any help in advance.

Let me know if you need some startup content. I've been in the gaming industry since 04.

-- 21 Apr 2015, 05:15 --

You've got a good start. The forum seems a bit empty at the moment. I would focus on content next. What kind of topics do you want your members to talk about? Give each discussion a home by adding the appropriate categories and boards. When you are ready you can always use the Community Reviews center. They are excellent about giving constructive criticism.

You've got a good start, at least you have the forum installed with a nice theme. You just need to work on getting a banner added. Also work on getting some categories and additional forums added and have a few friends help you out by giving your initial contents of the guest can see that. After all, no one likes an empty forum with no content.

After a week or so with your friends helping you do the initial content, really work on your advertising in trying to bring in additional members. Really work on making sure that your forum has no typos and good descriptions of each forum and category. People want to know exactly what you mean by each category and forum. Some people may not know what a name of the forum means it may be confused and scared to post a topic.

Good luck with your new forum.

You need to fill it with content and make sure that you keep it regularly updated! Nobody wants to come to an out of date gaming forum when there are so many others available out there. It's a solid start but keep going!

You're off to a pretty good start. But you really need to focus on building content. Best of luck to you. 🙂

I think the domain is way way to long.
A personal rule I use is to never go over 11 characters long. Your nearly at 30.

I would agree, a short and sweet domain is the way to go, its easier to remember as well. Plus Seo wise itll be easier to work with a shorter domain.

I think if you have a good design and have content in the forum you could do a really good job with a new forum. The domain might be a problem as people like short, memorable domains that can be typed easily into the url bar.
