Hello,

One day I may make this an ebook but heres my guide to success which I will update.

1)Finding A Host
Now finding a forum host is very hard, I suggest that you don't use things like http://www.forumotion and http://www.freeforums.org. I suggest you install the forum yourself by using post to hosts like sitefrost.com

2)Post To Hosts
Posts to hosts are very simple you just make posts on their forum and you can get any of their hosting packages for free. You have to make monthly posts normally to keep your hosting going.

3)Forum Software
Now picking a forum software is a nightmare for webmasters. I suggest you downlaod and install http://www.phpbb.com/ or http://www.mybb.com . The two best by a long way for me.

I will continue this guide when I start installing my forum to my p2h account.

...What?
I don't think that if I choose IPB over MyBB or PhpBB would really effect my forums chance on being a success.
Also, many times P2Hs don't go very well from what I've seen. Paid hosts are better by far, so hypothetically if I did think that using a p2h could effect my forums success, then I would also have to worry about my forum being shut down because I didn't fill my posts at the end of the month, or getting shut down for no reason.

Also, I don't think what host, what software, and what plan you use to operate your forum can choose it's success. It's the content, how much you put into it, and how you carry it out that could make your forums success.

Its my guide for what I can do, how the hell do you install IPB? And I'm also trying to make it free.

I find phpbb and mybb to be better than any other forum software in the business TBH. Not because it's free but because of it's design and it's easy to use.

Its easy to use and that is what I'm trying to do in the guide because people who can make top class IPB forums don't need my help.

VB has gone downhill. IPB looks crap. 😛

How can a software look "crap"?

You could have a poorly designed phpBB forum, with ads every where, terribly contrasting colors, and a great designed, and easy to use IPB forum, which has the perfect balance of colors and features. Does the IPB still look "crap"?

As for the guide, it's simple, but to the point. However, as much as you want it to be free, I'm sure you should include a domain. It's not always a must, but it adds a lot of influence on a forum's success.

It's a paid software.
Yes, but I don't think that if I chose one forum software over another it would determine my forums success.

Its a nice little guide but most should already know this. I use sitefrost for a very long time now. And its a great host but sometmes you have downtimes, not so many anymore after they switched data center, I mean host, now there good but i think paid host like hawkhost or hostmonster, hostgator are the onces to pick when you want no downtime at all.

If one person says paid hosting I think I'm going to throw myself off a cliffe. The guide is 100% cost proof.

So, you're trying to say if someone creates a forum on a free forum host, the forum would automatically fail? ( sure, you can't move the forum, install mods or get members from FP, but that's the only problem )

Check these out : ( from forumotion / not my forums )

www(dot)geekpolice(dot)net/
www(dot)ofc-league.com/forum(dot)htm
smokin-elite(dot)nice-boards(dot)net/
www(dot)migforces(dot)com/

They seem to be doing pretty well to me, 😉

( there are lots more, try searching in forumotion's directories )

Now tell me, why should the admin waste their time posting for hosting?

Seems like a joke to me and I would never do such a thing. I would rather use free hosting than posting to host...

But, this is a good option to choose for people that doesn't have the money with some time to post.

People say that vB is downhill, but since they removed the bugs since vB 4.0 was released, you see more vB 4.0 forums on the Internet. Strange why more people join vB forums than phpBB or MyBB forums... I wouldn't judge the forum software, as long as the content is good and I can benefit from it, I'll join the forum or stay on the website. I even joined a successful forum where the webmaster created the forum software from scratch.

Like I say I suggest... Plus yes I like forumotion and that but everytime I use it people say "Nah I'm not going on its forumotion" "Paid hosting please" "I don't want to be staff if its on forumotion"

Well, don't listen to them. If they don't want to join a forumotion forum while your forum has great content, it's their lost. FP shouldn't be your only resource to advertise a forum, 😉
