Sticky your ad on Forum Promotion

Such a great idea, I love it! Prices seem quite high though :/

My perspective: why pay $5 to have your topic stickied when you could pay a small amount of FP Cash to get a Bubble Ad (which appears on every single thread) and/or Banner Ad (which is great exposure for an advertisement)? But hey, it might give your thread some exposure; it might not.

Honestly, the only forums/sites advertised on here i see actually benefiting from this are other ad forums, hosting sites, and webmaster forums.

Cause that's the ONE COMMON ground everyone here has, and is looking for.

But, for $5, I'd rather buy a backlink and build some anchor search text for actual hits from Google searchers searching my content, I wouldn't wait for them on here.

But, like I said, there is a fraction of ad topics that mayyyyy can benefit from this.

The service is there, and members have the option to use, or not use it.

I still think the best thing FP can do for it's members ... is finally make a Genre Directory in the ad topic listings; similar to how FA was set up.

If I'm promoting my gaming site, guess what , I'll see only other gaming sites .. MY interests. And this will work with other forum genres, and members in the same category.

Statistics from FOTM lead me to believe that the impact, if any, from winning the competition is not as good a value as many other competing services. An example would be 8 dollars a year for sticky advertisements on Futurama Fan Forum. I would hope that the benefits brought by an increase in revenue for FP would be good, though I don't know that this service will bring in all that much.
Yes but unlike here, in that $8 cost I include a force to read, meaning that EVERY member that logs on in that week is FORCED to read the thread, meaning you are guarenteed people will see your topic. I cannot guarentee that people will visit your site from the topic, but I can get them to the topic in the first place. Also, threads in that section can never be bumped, meaning it stays near the top for a very very long time.

This does work my topic has doubled in views in less than 5 minutes, so well worth the few bucks, cheers Fergal

Thanks a lot richazey, you're our first customer for this service and I'm delighted that you have benefited from it.

Cosmic, feedback is appreciated and welcome, but I really don't understand why other members find the need to be so critical of the service. No one is forced to purchase this sponsorship and at a cost of $5 for one week or $7 for two weeks it's not a big investment in promoting your forum, site, blog or affiliate link.

This sticky service seems, to me, like a one sided profit-oriented service which favors this forum much more than the requester...

Honestly that's quite a strange statement to make. The service has already benefited one member and will benefit more members. I'm proud to be the owner of Forum Promotion and like our other Admins and Staff I love putting time into the forum, I think most people will know that I'll never sell enough of those ads, to cover the investment I made when purchasing Forum Promotion. Please note that this is not a complaint on my part, but it is only fair that I address the "profit-oriented" comment. BTW "profit" is not a bad word in my opinion, I'm happy for Google to make huge profits from the excellent service they provide.

It does work, I posted the topic which is now a sticky last Friday to promote my new forum and by noon today (GMT) had only 24 views, as at time of posting this it has had 79 views, 55 views in a few hours compared to 24 in 7 days, so let see how many views it gets in a week, well worth the few pounds, from doing already had 1 new member, so well happy.

Thanks for your support richazey, I'm delighted that it's working for you 🙂

Im kinda interested in buying an ad, but its a little costly. How many members are using this service so far? If there arnt to many people using it at the moment, can new purchases maybe get a coupon?

I think the real reason why you're getting a slight view boost to your stickied topic, is because everyone is interested and curious to see who is the first to use this service.

What I think would give this a little more incentive; which I know you can't make all these into global announcements; but what if you added an announcements table to the global footers, where these topics would also be displayed when using the service.

$5 for a week long sticky is just ... I won't even say it.

I'm not trying to down the new service, and I know it is an option. It's just there's a lot more you can do to benefit your forum for $5, and have a much bigger impact in the long run.

Don't care why they are viewing, all that matters is more are viewing it and you make it sound like $5 will break the bank, god it's not even £4 to me.

For the "Sponsor" text, woud you be able to use a different color other than red? I think it'd stand out more if it wasn't the same color as the "FOTM" text.

For a lot of members here, 25 cents will break their bank 😛

Anyone who knows me, knows I will shell out any amount of cash for my site. If you'd read my post, I list my view on the pros and cons for this service ... and actually try to give some kinda suggestions to try and peek interests from members actually interested in trying this, but not tempted just yet.

I'd like to see FP get a little something back from all the free services they provide, but $5 for one week sticky topic is not going to get a lot of members interested, and I'd hate to see FP miss out. Maybe if there was an introductory price like $2-3 for the first few customers in rotation, would help them get more interests from the start, so those members can leave credible feedback.

We are not looking for large amount and we don't want large amounts. 1 or 2 a month is enough really. If we have loads then they wouldn't exactly be special and won't get as much exposure. If we only have a few, they will get more attention and the forum will be less cluttered (which i thought members want based on feedback we have had recently). I am starting to think this is another situation that we would do the wrong thing however we implemented it.

We accept that 25 cents will break the bank for some people but we can't cater for everyone. We have free services for people who don't want to pay or can't then we have a paid service for the people who CAN afford it. If they can't then they can use all the many other FREE services.

It is just an option that is available. If you think the price is too high or don't think it is worthwhile then that is your opinion and you are not forced to pay. The forum is still free to use. The money we get will help Fergal finance the forum and allow us to move forward. We could ask for donations but instead of asking for a few $ for nothing much in return, we are offering some special advertising for supporting the site.

Hmm, well that is a good point: no one is forced to buy it, and I agree completely. Me, and possibly Hcf too, are just trying to see if the service can be optimized for recipients. I just think that the revenue forum promotion gets from this might be a little bit higher if it was implemented slightly differently, but whatever floats your boat. I hope that whatever happens, the members requesting this service get the value they7 expect when purchasing this ad and enough people request it to help drive FP's future projects. 🙂

Hm, $5 for a week, for a topic being stickied, is quite expensive. If its $5 a week and there are 52 weeks in a year, you may as well buy a backlink or and advertising spot on the front page and you would probably get the same number of clicks, if not more, plus the added backlink.

Also, the hits/views are inaccurate. The owner, or same person can constantly click it, or look back at the topic. It doesn't show new clicks or unique clicks.

It is not something you would buy for 52 weeks a year even if it was $2 or $3 a month is it? Whether they are unique visitors or not, they are still people viewing his topic that probably wouldn't have viewed it.

As i said before, If you are not interested so be it. This is here for the people that are interested. The attitude of alot of people here is starting to irritate us massively. You have made your points and this is not forced on you. You don't have to pay so if you don't want to pay then you can go off and view one of the many hundred other active topics on this forum. It always seems to be the same people over and over and over again in all the topics. Some people make their point and move on, some people are not interested and don't reply however some people take it upon themselves to attack the forum as much as they can.

I am interested, but we should be allowed to make deals, ie. $15 for a month or two, otherwise, I would back away. If something like that could be made, I'll be interested.
