I am not the best at grammar and sentence structure, however it annoys the crap out of me when my Facebook feed is full of "is anyone goin 2 the dnce 2night?" - like really? You're a senior in highschool and you talk like that? My English discussions have some of the same lingo, it's really hard replying to someone about the characteristics of Beowulf when they literally misspelled almost every single word or shortened it into a text lingo. I am fine with "lol" and "btw" and what not, however I hate when people talk like a 6 year old when they are taking an advanced English class. 😛

Anyone else find it hilarious when adults/teenagers start talking like a 6 year old all over social media and forums? 😛

U Dnt lyk dat?
y u so mean 2 peops
y i dnt hav ur facbok

When I went back through my old forum days... I laughed at how I used to type. I had no idea I was that BAD. lol. I was able to write fine, but via the internet I was terrible for a period of time. 😛

I can't really handle reading other people typing this way though. xD

Are you meaning when people over use Internet slang?

Basically, especially in my advanced English class where that's how they talk in the discussions we have. 😛

Yeah, I dislike that also. My main issue, is those who do it when they are much older, when they should know better. I know it is easier to get a message across with abbreviations, but purposely misspelling most words, for shortened versions that sound like it is not my forte.

It annoys me. My sister did that all the time, especially on Facebook. It ended after about a month of taking it upon myself to correct every single error she made... Publicly. She cleaned up her writing quite a bit after that.

I am also guilty of looking back at old forums that I participated on. It was rather sad...

I have nothing against people that cannot spell very well but I've come across some that just had me shaking my head such as the following...

Facebook Statuses/comments

"I fill terrable"

"Your ugly"

Darn, I had a list in my head and now I forgot the others that I've seen over the past year.

I really does tick me off, and I'm not sure why. People (especially me) make mistakes and typos while typing, and if we do something as easy as proof what we're about to say, we won't have this problem. Although, if you're going to talk to me, do so in an intelligent way. If you want to act like a 9 year old, go talk to a 9 year old. 😛

That annoys me a lot too (and when people text like that). I see it in comments on major news articles as well which is even more weird as you know other, potentially a lot of, people will be reading what you say and your name is attached to it. Or when people do have good grammar/spelling and use too many "lol's", "haha", "omg", etc.

This has been going on for years now. Since I joined forums in 2006 it's been that way. It's really annoying, but what can you do?

This doesn't annoy me that much to be honest. 😛 Obe of the problems with being on a high horse about grammar, also, is that everyone makes mistakes every now and then. When you do make mistakes, it opens you up to be made fun of. 😛

If you're not that great at grammar, it won't annoy me too much. It does annoy me though when people point out grammar mistakes that other people make. That just feels so arrogant.

This is my worst pet peeve in the online world, and I actually have a rule against this on my forum. I too am fine with the occasional "BTW", and other basic abbreviations, but any other text talk isn't allowed. Save that for when you're texting back and forth with a friend of yours, not on a forum or social media site! I also discourage text speaking on my forum because while there are a lot of people out there who can understand it, there are just as many people who have never heard of "text speak" and aren't familiar with this, who therefore get confused when people typ lyk dis".
