So, I tried to access a site today linked in the MyBB Community Forums so I could check out their issue and give them support, when I received the message: Your IP of [not giving you my IP 😀] is listed in the StopForumSpam database. Please complete the Captcha below to access this site. I did the Captcha, entered the site, and gave support to the user. But... I went o SFS, looked up my IP, and... well, first, I need to tell you about something else for you to understand this.

A couple of weeks ago, a spammer joined my forum. He spammed a crappy weed forum and used a VPN, so every time I banned him, he came back. I joined his forum and signed up with the username 'Quit ******* spamming on SH', and made a thread about it. 5 minutes later: I'm IP Banned.

...and then, today, I see that username, my e-mail, and my IP in the SFS database.

I requested for it to be removed and a mod will be looking into it shortly, so hopefully everything'll be okay.

So, what do you guys think of SFS trolls? Has your IP ever been listed in the SFS database? What did you do about it?

I don't even know what that is. I know that one of my IPs was once blocked by IPB's spam thing when I tried to register on a few forums, but that seems to have been resolved by now.

Mine has never been blocked and I hope it never is lol

SFS? It's a database where the usernames, e-mails, and IPs of known spammers are stored.

That's good. 🙂

Looks like I'm not listed, fortunately. 😛

Anyway, I hope they remove you. They probably remove most people that ask to be removed, I imagined, as generally saying "I am not a spammer" is proof enough that you're not a spammer. 😛

Yeah, and they put people who list non-spammers in the DB into the DB itself.

I've never been listed in that database or if I did/am then I don't know about it. The next time someone keeps trying to spam your forum or are trolls you should hellban them.

Genius. Why didn't I think of that? 😛 Now he can't spam his crap. 😀
Thanks!

It's an awesome plugin. Gives the impression to trolls that they are doing damage but in reality they are the only ones able to view their posts. (Well, staff as well) ...but at least they won't continue to bother regular members.

Really? The plugin I saw didn't let staff see them either. 😛

Hey Mr.. I told you about this plugin before 😛
Did you do it though? I haven't seen him around and since you aren't blocked again on StopForumSpam maybe he just left you alone.

I've turned off the SFS plugin on my forum because of the false positive issue and it started blocking legitimate users. Not worth it in my opinion.

My IP's still in the database... bleh. I'm curious though. If your IP is blocked, so sites that use SFS just completely block you, or allow you to do a captcha? The forum I went to had a captcha, so it worked out, but IDK about others.

Depending on what forum software you use, you could look into what they match. Something like at least two (of three) matches is a good indication of a known spammer but something like username alone is a poor one. For all you know, "Jenny" could be the same name of a well-known spammer.

OP, I'm sorry you've been put into this situation. Hopefully they deactivate the adder's privileges for submission or something, but you can in fact trace back those who add entries.

Whether or not you get blocked from signing in depends on the forum software's implementation of the API. If they see some sort of "match", you might have to be manually added. Others block you. I think the former is a better approach.

Interesting. Well, thanks.
But, I got some consolation, at least... the crappy weed forum of the irritating spammer who put my name in the database? It's gone. Deleted, apparently.

Hah, take that! :nyan:

Trolls are never fun to deal with. It was like 2 in the morning when I came across that hellban plugin. After being hit with trolls in what felt endlessly it was quite a relief that such a plugin existed!
