Have you ever had any brown outs from storms that ruined your electronic equipment?

UK doesn't ahve powercuts that often, the last one I had was six years ago. We have power underground not flying in the sky 😛

In 2006, my laptop got ruined by a severe lighting storm because I was an idiot and left it plugged in along with my tv and expensive home phone system that I had. I was pretty aggravated about it.

That's no fun. We had storms the other night and the lights flickered so we quickly turned off the tv and I shut down my laptop. The problem is that electricity still gets into those when plugged in, so a surge could potentially happen and harm those items.

Whenever I hear there's going to be a severe t-storm, I unplug everything. I don't want a repeat of what happened 16 years ago. I couldn't afford a new laptop back then with what I was making. Minimum wage was $6.24 an hour.

No. All my electronics are plugged into surge protectors.

I was working online on my computer when storms would happen that day. I didn't think that much of it, but then it happened. It surged my computer, my 2 PS4's, and some small stuff. We had to fix the 2 PS4's, and the computer. We went to fix my pre-built, the WHOLE system surged. It was BURNT inside the motherboard. I remember touching the piece, and it felt like an actual burn. The parts are still at the shop.

We bought a new pre-built. For now. I do online "work." Social Media, YT, and my websites.

But it was a learning experience for me. I know storms are bad, but I didn't think it was gonna do THAT kind of damage. I thought it was just gonna turn off stuff. Most did, my TV's went unscathed.

Since then, we bought power surges. We learned the lesson.
