What I learned is that you can go to many promotion sites to get hits and members, but sometimes they don't work.
The best way to get members to actually stay ACTIVE is to have a nice template design and great topics that people want to talk about or do. If they don't like the design, they wouldn't really consider posting a lot would they?
Now another way that works is to actually force people to register but you have that risk of them just posting one or two times and thats it so I'd go with having a great and unique design.
