Sub-domain or sub-folder

I have a domain in which I am going to be publishing articles and tutorials to. The only thing is, I wish to run a forum under it for more serious discussions and allow people to post advertising threads.

My problem now is I have the word 'forum' in my domain name so I'm not sure how to put the forums. should I have it like:

forums.forum****.net
forum****.net/forums
board.forum****.net
forum****.net/board

I am struggling to figure out which one I should choose.

Use "community" instead of forums or board?

community.forum****.net?


If not, then I would choose: forum****.net/forums

Maybe try a seperate domain for the forum altogether? That's what I currently do, and it makes the address much easier to remember than a subdomain or folder based forum address would be.

And hey, if you later dislike the forum direction, you can theoretically dissasociate it with the main site.

Pick one and make them all redirect to that link? Therefore you can have all of them.
