It is no secret that many forum admins use sub-forums instead of adding multiple main forums to a site. Sometimes those sub-forums look tacky listed under a main boards description. Other times, it doesn’t really matter.

What do you think about sub-forums in general? Are you for or Against them?

Having sun-boards keeps the main boards nice an clean. And it doesn't look so busy. Plus allot of people/members doesn't like to scroll down and down for ever. Boards should be clean and not busy

For me, sub forums are for the neatness of the home page where the table of the boards are located. Imagine if there are 100 boards, whew, that's a long list. Main boards can be limited to a comfortable number by inserting the sub topics under them. At least the home page will be nice to look at. Take note that some walk in users are turned off when they see a long list of categories.

I find that sub-forums simply don't get used a lot of the time. It's a tricky situation as too many forums is problematic, but there's something about nesting which people don't like.

Sounds about right. I mean, Forum Games doesn't look good as forum section, only a sub-forum one - or maybe this is subjective.

I try not to use so many sub-forums because, like @Azareal said, people tend not to use them. Probably because they require an extra step for the user, and too many forums could make posting harder and more complicated for users. It's better to try and enforce tagging IMO.

I don't have anything against sub-forums. As other people have said, it helps keep the homepage a lot cleaner. Of course, it could look cluttered if you have a bunch of links to subforums too. I think they should be used as sparingly as possible but they shouldn't be avoided, in my opinion.
