It returns an error when I try to add my site. It says my image is not valid, though I can't see why; it's exactly 31X88 and under 800 kbytes...

It has to be 88x31 (width x height).

Please post the site url you used AND the image you used 🙂

If I were you I would definitely require registration before being able to submit a site. Tie it in somehow so that registering for your site automatically registers them for your forum. Look at it that way - your forum could already have 350+ extra members.

Although I would personally do that, it would probably deter some people from joining - you know, the 'ugh, another registration form' thing. Maybe use OpenID?

I considered all of that. All forms of connecting accounts from other sites, to simple forum integration - you're right about it weeding out the lazy people. Some people won't go any further if you can't lurk and still have actions.

I'm on the web tower, or at least I was a month ago😛 I change my site's button every so often {and enjoy the small surge of hits I get each time I do!} so I like hotlinking my button rather than uploading it to a site. Besides if a button breaks {and stays broken} you'll know right away the site is probably defunct and then you can remove it.

I do stuff like holiday themed buttons too esp around this time of year, current one is the halloween one so if I uploaded that then it'd show year round and I don't want that.
