Here's a search engine listing where you can locate sites that submit your site to various search engies for free:

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp& ... 0202ef1169

I was always advised that once a month, I should submit my site/forum/blog, etc to search engines. (I always use the first as a reminder, but any one day of the month will work as long as it's the same day each month).

What this does is the first time you do this after you create a webpage (or what have you) is tell the search engines, "hey we have a new website we have to check out, let's get going", and put's it in their "to be viewed" queue.

When it's ready, each search engine will come and make it's first index of your site. This will take some time as it's never visited your site before. Once the indexing is complete, you will now have at least 2 - 3 hard pages of content on the main search engines for viewing (google, yahoo, bing).

Now you don't have to lift a finger until next month. Why do you have to manually submit your site month after month when the search engines now know you exist?
A: It's to help ensure that they are aware of your presence, keep re-indexing your site, and adding your new content to the search engine.

So sit back and relax and enjoy the benefits of multiple search engine submission.
* If you have a search enging submission site or program you use (that's free of course), please let us know. Also let us know of your own creations too so we can add them to the database.

Hey,
What I have found is submitting to search engines sometimes gets you banned forever from their search bot.

That is from experience.

Yeah this happened to a friend of mine =/ had to e-mail google to sort everything out.

Well this information/tip I have is from about a year and 1/2 ago, so does that mean this info is debunked or does some of what I say hold merit but just needs to be altered?

Search Engines are getting smarter and smarter each day. These magical "Submit to everyone FREE NOW FASTT WOO!!" is just crap really. Most do not even do the job, I do have proof to back that up.

So where in the older days it was a requirement to submit to search engines, nowadays your saying you no longer need to do that. Just let them find you. Am I right in what your trying to communicate?

@net I agree I just have them find me easier and less work and you can focus more on your community this way.

I made an article about quick manual ways to submit your sitemap.

It's much better than automated methods.

Lets be honest, the 3 major search engines are Google/Bing/Yahoo. With the exception of a few others, dont waste your time with these scams. Submit manually to the big boys.

I never submitted my site to a search engine ever. I put up links to it on already indexed pages, so that the next time those sites are crawled the SE's will find my site through those links.

netsavvy006, whether you like it or not, guys like Google are very progressive. What may have worked in 2003 doesn't necessarily work today. Google mainly progresses to combat its own flaws and bots taking over engines.

Want another example? Not all links are created equal. What do I mean? I'll let you figure it out.

I understand what your saying el canadiano. It's forever changing. They have to adapt to the ever growing needs of it's users, their own needs, and to continue to compete with the others.
