How often does your site hold competitions, and how successful are they in bringing new traffic?

I've held a couple of contests on FE, but never got too much activity from them. I don't think I've quite figured out how to promote them yet. Any tips?

We have a monthly raffle, where someone can win $20 and a cool user badge every month. Instead of buying into the raffle, people earn tickets around the site by making certain quality contributions.

I have not thought of doing a raffle but that's an interesting idea.

What kind of contributions do you run OP?

I'm with you on not knowing how to promote my contests well enough. On several communities I've managed in the past I've had contests with decent rewards and it just never attracted enough attention... It baffles me.

Is there a way to gift a member who wins a contest with a virtual gift card? So you don't have to send it in the mail? I kind of like that idea and might do it to encourage members to share the forum with more people like on FB or something.

PayPal is a great alternative, and everyone already uses it.

I do like this idea, the idea of earning it by being active and contributing :]
