I'm thinking of maybe starting a new forum, though I'd like some suggestions. 😛

What area's are you most "fluent" in?

I'll give you an example of what he's talking about. Like me, I love being able to talk about whatever I want, So I started up a general chat board. However, I love going on Webmaster forums like FP, and AF, so I threw a little Forum Discussion in there, and sometime during the week I'm thinking of expanding Marie 1988 and adding more things to talk about. One of my members gave me a nice list of suggestions to add, and I'm going to try a few of them. One of them I thought of, being as we are on a free host, is a ProPHPBB technical feedback thread. What that would be is, say if there's some bugs that people are finding on Marie 1988, they'd post in that forum, and then, unless the problem gets noticed before I can see the thread, I will look at the thread, and then I'll know to take the problem to the support forum. So I got some changes I want to make, but that won't happen until the beginning of next week. But really though, just decide on what you really like to talk about, and then create a forum about it.

Depends what you have the most experience in. Good with web design? Make a forum dedicated to helping people design professional looking websites.

It all depends on you.

Well I did have a webmaster forum of my own, but it started causing me to get banned on competing forums. ;/

Don't let that hold you back. If thats what you want to do - Do it.

I would, but I've already been banned off Sitepoint, Namepros and DigitalPoint forums because of it.

hmmm

Everybody gets banned from DP. I read somebody who wrote a thread about how not to get banned or something similar got banned.

Yes I know. lol

I had 6 accounts banned there, my first account got banned when I made an introduction. XD

DP just loves to ban you when you're in the middle of selling/buying something.

They're a bunch of scrubs, to be honest.

Now back on topic - how about making a forum related to arcade games or something? IDK - I'm not the best at finding forum ideas.

Well, I decided to give myself a go at a general chat type of forum, setting it all up right now. 😛

There are many many general chat discussion forums out there, just make sure that you offer something others do not or you will not succeed. Goodluck with the new forum that you are working on.

What he said. General chat forums are very common and just offering general chat is a bit too cliché. You need to have a lot of extra things to offer your members.

The most successful forums that take place are such things that are thought of yourself. Something no one else has even thought about making. Something new to everyone. It will make them curious and if it interests them, they will join. If you make something like that, others will try to copy you, sure. But they will only be competing in a lose - lose situation as you would have been the first to make it and if you keep them entertained, then they will not go to a different forum like the one you made because yours will be bigger and better than the person that is trying to copy you.

You see many advertising boards now days. Why do people not join them much? Because, it's simple. MANY of them are exactly the same things..same forums, same groups, same software, same topics, same everything.

Key is..If you think of things that are unique, it will be successful.

Just because you get banned on "competition" forums, doesn't mean you shouldn't still do it. In fact, there are some sites (I think FP is one of them even) that'll allow you to advertise forums the same genere as theres.
