My site has been decreasing in activity slowly, and slowly, less and less posts each day, I've been doing the same thing, but for some reason over the summer is when I started to notice. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Link's in my signature.

I think you have to be around so much, good staff who are also around and catch the new members and talk to them and welcome them, post with them is so important.

Contests and post exchanges will only temporarily increase activity. Give your users something to discuss. Intrigue your members with topics and questions they'll want to respond to and answer. Don't let threads die. The most difficult aspect of running of forum is engaging members, but something as simple as asking questions often does the trick.

I personally despise post contests. They're only put in place to generate activity, which to me, is simply being lazy.
I'm a member of GZC and my main problem with it is that there is NEVER any new content. I see Firestrife online for like, the entire day and he never posts a thing. The best way to get your members to post is for the Admins to take an active role and lead the way in posting.

Start posting more because if you want members to post you got to post first. Have contest and make the prize a game of the winner's choice or money. Once you start the contest advertise everywhere. Try to have something new everyday like a review of a game. You can also start over if you want. If you do start over use pay hosting and if your going to have website with forum use a blog or just a portal.

Forums will always go through inactivity cycles, so don't get discouraged. But if you notice it's not a cycle, but your forum is really becoming less and less active, it's probably because your members are getting bored with the site. As Shotgun said, try post exchanges to increase activity, and also offer things like contests and more interesting things to boost activity.

Sure, they might give some "temporary" activity, but that's why you're supposed to host more than one and do it frequently. Chances are if you keep hosting contests, members will stay, wait for more contests to be hosted, and eventually become a part of the community. Do a contest once a week. You might think it's too much for yourself, but if that's the case, then so be it. It's your forum.
