Has anyone else gotten an email from a Runescape deal called "Jagex LTD"? Over the course of the past few months I've been getting emails from them similar to this:

Code:
To Player,

We have gathered convincing evidence that you have tried to trade your RuneScape account or digital goods for real-world currency.

Such real money trading has serious negative implications on the economy of RuneScape and is in violation with our policies. Any user that continues to engage in the illegal activity has no place in our community.

All of your game characters are now on our watch-list and will be constantly monitored for real money trading. Regardless of who you are or for how long you've been with us, if you continue to RWT we will be: (1) indisputably removing your account from the game in order to protect RuneScape, and (2) suing you in a court of law (Jagex Limited against you), which is an indictment based on Digital Millennium Copyright Act law violations that is at this moment imminent in the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois (Civ. Action Serial SANC-V12-00364-CKJ-rGkH6sKL).

I have a feeling this is a scam, because when I went to click on the link to file a complaint about these emails, especially since I don't play Runescape nor do I know anything about the game, it just all looked suspicious to me. Still does. Clicked on the link, tried to log in, tried the forgot my password, and it says there's no such email/username on file. How can they punish someone who doesn't even have an account with them? I immediately reported it to Outlook as a phishing scam and I blocked their email. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Thanks.

Your mistake was trying to log in on their site. It could have your username and password now. If I were you, I would go to the OFFICIAL Runescape page and reset your password and do new recovery questions. If you do not, they can steal your account, since you have given the fake Jagex your information.

I don't even remember signing up to any Runescape sites, that's just it What's the link to the official one? I can try it and possibly request an account deletion if I had to? I knew there was something funny about those emails

You may not have, but you may have put your email in somewhere else. Use the http://www.runescape.com address and sign into your account there. Make sure you change your password and security questions, especially if there are no warnings on your account yet.

These are most certainly spam/phish e-mails. Jagex will only contact you through the account centre located on their website.

Here's a wealth of valuable info - http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?250,251

If you're a Runescape player, I'd read through all that. If you need further help making your account secure, PM me. This is one of my specialties in the RS community.

Also, seeing how you logged into the scam site, I'd immediately go about securing your account and changing the credentials

So I'm not the only one these jerks are doing it to then.
These e-mails are pretty common amongst the Runescape community. It's a huge issue on the official RS Forums as people lack the knowledge to discern between real Jagex e-mails and the fake ones

I got one of those emails too and it looks very convincing. The only way to know that it was fake was to mouse over the link and it shows clearly that it doesn't go to the runescape.com site. Every other link went to a page on runescape.com, that's why it was so convincing. I warned my clan about this scam. Hopefully no one falls for it.
