What do you think about people who false report to 911 and lie about there being a hostage situation?

I have seen online so many instances of this happening and in some cases it's done to people like live streamers who are enjoying a game, chatting with their community, and minding their own business. The fact that swatting is still something that happens quite frequently, shows that nothing much gets done to deter people from falsely reporting things like hostages. I feel that stricter punishments should be given to those who falsely report in a bid to get someone swatted. They do it for their own enjoyment because they are usually watching the person they are getting swatted and it's a joke to them. They don't think about the resources used without the need or for the people they cause unnecessary stress for.

The worst thing ever. I'd not wish this on anybody, not even my worst enemy. I am against swatting and think if the persons caught they be charged and have to pay for the damage done to the home, police resource costs, etc.

What's sad is the real hostage situations, like with human trafficking, are numerous and not reported, generally.
