How are they control freaks? They might not want their children reading stuff with swear words in. What kind of parent are you if you don't care what your children are up to?

Anyway, I allow it to a certain extent. Most words are blocked by the filter anyway.

What's wrong with seeing swear words at the age of 13 which is the age you can legally sign up for forums? Plus the most successful/biggest forums out there have very laid back rules.

That might be your way of thinking but your not a parent and even if you was it doesn't mean other people think the same. Some people might not want their children to be reading swearwords, it doesn't mean it is wrong.

13= teenager, not child

Sorry to be a smart-arse -lol-

Back to the original point, IMO looking through your childrens browsing history is being a control freak, not giving your children any privacy.

You could be 20 and your parents are 45, they can still consider you as their children.

At the age of 20 your parents aren't going to care if you visit a site with swearing on. -lol-

Or you just move out (about time anyway -roll- ) and then suddeny, NO LIMITS.

Once yiu're back out of jail on bond, then you can start a new life without your parents stalking you online. That stage will go until you get a 'girlfriend' in which case you'll really have no need to hide anything you do anymore, which isn't a bad thing -lol-

For my forum , I just have word filters and I don't have any complaints so far.

I allow swearing as long it it is not used to bash or offend other members 🙂.

I have censors that replace swears with other words. I allow words like Damn, Hell, and Crap though. And I allow members to fake swear (e.g. ****, #^$&@!, or [censored]).

Most average forums do fine with word filters. Your content is really the factor that decides it. BlueHumor.org may not have any filters, but some of my other sites (when they launch) probably will.

Yeah, my forum is an Animal Crossing forum, and Animal Crossing can be played by small children. Besides, I think that **** is a fine thing to use.

I will soon be adding censors to all swear words, as I don't like swearing on forums nor do I allow it. But we have a few members who feel otherwise, and I just remind them that I dislike swearing and that it is not allowed. I don't like swearing in real life either, but that's how it is, I guess.
