Tapatalk is a mobile app app which allows people to browse your forum, assuming that the tapatalk plugin is installed on your board. It's an alternative to having a mobile website, and there are some people who are avid fans of this.
Do you have Tapatalk installed on your site? What do you think about it?
I've used taptalk before on other forums, but I'm not a fan. I like to make my sites mobile ready so users don't have to download any apps to use my site.
I would have to agree with erich. Tapatalk is a nice app as far as usability goes, but it would be far better if you could develop a nice mobile site. Search engines are placing a lot more focus on the mobile side of things now, so it will help in that department as well.
I'm going to agree with the replies in this thread. I currently have Tapatalk installed on my forum, but I'm moving towards creating a mobile theme that users can just view normally without having to download and install an app. It makes it a lot easier for them.
I don't like the idea of requiring users to download a third party app to browse our site. Especially not when we have a perfectly good mobile mode (that activates automatically when it detects a user browsing on smart phone) installed and functioning. (It's theme may not be the prettiest, but it functions just fine and makes using our site on mobile pretty easy.)
I'm also not overly comfortable with tapatalk because I don't really know a lot about it and how it works.
And when the other things I've heard is that they've had some security issues? (And that was just in December 2014...) I get even less interested in considering or using them for anything.
My main forum (FeedbackExchange) has both Tapatalk and the default IPB mobile theme. People seem to request Tapatalk for some reason, so I installed it. 😛 I guess there's a mobile theme in case someone doesn't want to download the app. I might set it so that tapatalk still works, but doesn't nag the user as much. Not sure if that's possible.
I would install it. I like to have my forum as user friendly as possible. I, personally, Don't use it. I don't want to install the app. If it makes the users happy, and doesn't cost me anything, I'll use it on my forum.
It's available at my forum and I have the app on my phone but I prefer using a mobile theme in a browser.
It has to be a good mobile theme though. The one here at FP (and some other phpBB forums out there) is kind of off-putting (just being honest) and at places like FP I'll just view the forum using the normal desktop theme. If they had tapatalk here, I'd use it for this forum. So... I suppose tapatalk is my 2nd choice, and the standard desktop theme would be 3rd choice for mobile browsing.
