That's a load of sht. Since Vietnam there have been tons of threats, and the draft has rarely even been brought up.Snobothehohoho said:Conscription would easily pass Congress in the United States if there were even a small threat.DavidL said:It would be against one's own free will. There are hundreds of millions who are educated enough to distinguish and acknowledge what is being said.
Anyway, an easy referendum would probably overturn the idea, as it would be a constitutional matter. Conscription has failed in Australia 2 times through referendums.

DADT was repealed recently. If you love and service men, you still should be allowed to love and service your country.Gimgak said:Luckily in America you can just say you're gay or some other BS and they can't let you in. Which is also a nice way to scam yourself free college 😀.
Once again, I have to ask why somebody who worked hard their entire life has to pay higher taxes than somebody who did not. The government is punishing hard work. Less tax cuts for middle/upper class = less money in the economy.obama hates santa said:Yeah but tax cuts for wealthy stillItsZippy said:DADT repealed - good. Of course people will abuse it. However, does your family member say that no one should be able to get them because there are some lazy people that take advantage? Should we just shut it down? I'm all for making sure that people who use the benefits are actually pursuing work and trying their best to get a job, but then again, how do you realistically police that? How do I prove that you aren't reading the classifieds every morning looking for a job and just haven't found one that suits you yet? (suits as in, you don't have the credentials for any of the jobs that you looked at, not as in you don't feel like becoming a plumber or w/e)Kirisute Gomen said:Somebody in my family works directly in the NYS Dept. of Labor and can vouch for the exact opposite. There ARE tons of people that get unemployment that genuinely need it, however there are also tons of people that work the system, never get caught, and certify for unemployment when they are in the hospital, visiting family, or even on cruises (yes, on cruises) etc. All the time they are on unemployment, they are supposed to be actively looking for a job and be available for work.obama hates santa said:With regard to your underlined statements, that BS about you making yourself unemployed doesn't mean anything. Should somebody be able to get money to go on cruises and not look for work?
okWill look into that. And no, it does not boost the economy. Just look at this link : http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=3241#_ftn2
According to the CBO, extending tax cut is the LEAST effective way to help the economy, and it says specifically, though they may give some short term help, in the long term, it will cause diminishing effects on the economy.
It shows a citation to the actual full CBO report at the bottom for you to examine if you don't believe the site.
People on unemployment benefits are supposed to have a written record of a job search, along with interviews and phone calls they have made. Of course it could all be made up, but the local offices are allowed to call to verify potential employers.obama hates santa said:Of course people will abuse it. Isn't it possible that the real problem is that the local offices aren't doing their jobs, then? I mean, of course they can't call every single employer, but they could try calling to verify that the people who have been on unemployment for a very long time are actively seeking employment.Kirisute Gomen said:People on unemployment benefits are supposed to have a written record of a job search, along with interviews and phone calls they have made. Can you split the topic to a taxes one?MissClaus said:Please try to bring the original post into the argument, it's starting to veer off a little 😉
Right now a lot of the local offices have been inundated with work, due to the number of people on unemployment, the lack of employees at the local offices, and cuts in state funding. Thus, there is little, if any, time to check up on the people on unemployment. The Labor Standards department (the department that enforces child labor, employers giving breaks to employees, safe work places) has around a 2 year backlog.Snobothehohoho said:Isn't it possible that the real problem is that the local offices aren't doing their jobs, then? Cuts to state funding is for sure a big reason behind it not working properly... I know for a fact that working in a state hospital, the amount of funding they give is terrible. And the hospitals are the least cut, so I cant even imagine what happened at the labor departments. The state needs to stop wasting money on the DEC. They pulled over my dad, myself, and my uncle while we were fishing in a local bay area. My uncle is a retired federal agent and just retired a few months ago as one of the assistant directors of ICE and even he had no idea that these DEC agents had the right to carry firearms and patrol harbors for people fishing. Now that, is a waste of state money.Kirisute Gomen said:Right now a lot of the local offices have been inundated with work, due to the number of people on unemployment, the lack of employees at the local offices, and cuts in state funding. Completely agree. I could understand a need for DEC in Alaska or other similar states, but NY does not need that much. We'll see what Cuomo does...obama hates santa said:Cuts to state funding is for sure a big reason behind it not working properly...
