For those of you who are too lazy, a teacher was suspended in Michigan for asking a student to remove a belt buckle displaying the Confederate flag on Oct. 20, a day where students wore purple to speak out against anti-gay bullying.
I do not condone anti-gay bullying (believe me), but I do not think that the teacher had the right to arbitrarily forbid the student from wearing the Confederate flag. It's obvious that the school district did not have any policies that would forbid the student from wearing the flag. Also, the student was not bullying anybody by simply wearing the flag. I hate the Confederate flag and everything for which it stands, but I think that the school district was fair in its decision to suspend the teacher.

A suspension seems a little extreme, if you ask me. I do believe that unless the kid wearing the belt buckle was causing trouble, such as flaunting the buckle and using it as a way to discriminate against someone, then there'd be no reason to ask him to take it off. However, if he was, in fact, doing something of that nature, I think the teacher made the right move.
The article doesn't exactly specify whether or not the child was displaying punishable behavior, though, so I can't say I'm in a place to judge.

Teacher has not right telling the kid he can't do that, still suspension may seem a bit steep. Hell, in texas a cop gets a 1 day suspension for running over a 10 year old but a school teacher gets the same for telling a kid not to wear something. oh you america

It's not really a conservative problem so much as it is a human problem. There are more conservatives who think the death penalty is the best thing in the world, though. I know this goes against my personal philosophy of blaming everything on the conservatives.
