Do you think team leaders are necessary are a good idea on a forum?

I don't really think they are and for my forum it's definitely not needed. I also think they cause a lot of hassle/can result in unneccessary problems.

I think they are important as every group has someone making sure everything is running smoothly instead of having it all watched by the admin.

I think they are very important. When your forum is quite big it takes a lot of pressure off the admins as they no longer have to look over all the sections and they don't have to worry about looking for and screening staff.

@Fowler: Your first point does not require a leader. Normal team members can look over all the sections. As for the last two reasons, I agree to an extent. When you have a bigger forum delegation can be important to keep things running smoothly. Though if a staff member is inactive, the management should get involved if it is a serious problem... people will be more likely to respond to a team leader then the management.

@Elias: Also a valid point, though it should only really apply for bigger forums.

It depends what these teams do. Promotion forums do require leaders to manage some services, like reviews, but other than that they aren't really needed unless you have too many groups other than moderators. I currently have a content team and moderation team, the content team being in-charge of guides, site content, coding, and so forth, The moderator team runs the forums primarily. I assign leadership roles mainly to administrators in those teams, though.

I have never used them yet, I really don't see the point of them unless you like phpBb and have a massive membership, usally the admin can delagate with all his staff without the real need of team leaders.

I don't think it'd be a bad idea, but I've never had any in my forums. I make sure I trust my mods and admins before hiring them for a position, so I won't have to be worrying about them doing their job or not.

What I usually do is recruit Moderators and only have 1 Super Moderator look over things, that way the responsibilities are split

Pointless hierarchy. Especially in cases where there is multiple admins.

Well i rather have my administration team organized then running all over the place and checking if the new projects are being done right.

A lot depends on the activity level on the forum. Team Leaders play a vital role on FP, they take full responsibility for their own section. If we didn't have Team Leaders it would be extremely difficult if not impossible for the Admins to manage all aspects of the forum and to manage all our staff.

On a less busy forum they are probably not required. We don't have them at my business forum, because the workload is not there for them. I as the admin, look after the moderators directly.

Can you please explain that a little more, or give some examples?
