Now a more serious note: I am very aware of the activity level of the forum, truly I am. This isn't my first forum I have ran. My staff from my old tech forum called ThatTechKid no longer can be active on the forum anymore. They were my backbone for the old forum, and hence it grew into a large forum that all we did was talk tech. Opening this forum was a dream for me ever since we had ThatTechKid on foruMotion and ZetaBoards because all I wanted was a paid software. Now that we have IPB, my dream about that came true, however, I lost my user base. I am not going to beg of you to join my forum, because I know if you don't want to, then you wont. However, we would really love to hear what you have to say about the forum. If you would like to join, please by all rights do so, we would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to get the activty up by promoting on 4 sites in total and even paid for one of them. I was recentley in a car accident were I was rear-ended and at the end of the story, I was out the car that i bought with my money from my summer job, and the money the person owed me, Michigans no fault laws...gotta love it. Mind you...I am only 17 soon 18. I am in the process of purchasing a new car with my money working at Sears, so money will be a little tight for promoting. I am not trying to sound all sappy in hopes that you will feel bad and join. However, sometimes, people need to know the behind the scense part to fully understand what i am trying to do.

Well, I know making a forum isn't easy, however, we are coming out with version 2 of TechOverdrive! This release offers a whole new skin and a lot of new and features jam packed with awesomeness. That's right forum! We now have our own chat system like Facebook's. The only difference is, it actually works. With this system, there is no more public shoutbox, it has been replaced with the chat style bar at the bottom. You can chat with individual members privately, open a new chatroom and much more. Notification will be pushed to the bar, and as we get used to it, more apps will be brought in to it.

Guidelines

No flaming of other members. Anyone caught doing so will be banned from the chat system
Do not abuse the chat by only using it, post in the forums too
Do not advertise your forum through the chat
Watch the swearing in chatrooms
If you are going away from your computer, change your status to "Unavailable"
Just use common sense when using it

Thanks, we are always trying to add new features for our members. Well there is a 10 minute cut off, so i guess I didnt need that.

Regular Forum Update

As the new year starts we are well on our way to creating this site to be the best technology forum it can be. In the process of winter break we were hard at work to give to you some extremely helpful, and useful tools. As stated in the bast announcement we now have chatrooms, and you can see who is in which chat, and when. Chatrooms are located at the bottom of the page, where you can chose which chatroom you wish to chat in, and see all your online friends. This will leave the shoutbox up top obsolete, and will be removed shortly.

Two brand new features you might not have been aware of is our Ihost, and Shorten URL. Ihost is an image uploader, So no need to go to other sites anymore to upload images from both your computer, and the web. All you have to do is click "Chose File" and then access the picture in your directory you wish, then simply click upload. Shorten URL is exactly what it says, It takes any URL you wish, and shortens it. So, once again, No need to go to another site to do this, It all can be done right here on the forum!

We are at hard work on this forum constantly to give you the best that we can, if you wish to see something changed, or added always feel free to post it in the suggestion side of the forum. We take the time to look, and take in to hand all suggestions submitted to TOD, and each one has a fair chance to become something in our forum. Forum Updates - January 2012


Well, the first major update is our opposition about SOPA and PIPA. We did participate in the blackout on January 18 for the 24 hours to protest the bills. CloudFlare reported 6 thousand page views during that 24 hour span of time. On to the second update. As you can see, we have installed a new theme that is really calm on the eyes and is clean and professional looking. We are not changing this theme again, this is settled. We have also added a few icons to the sidebar hooks, the board panel and now the shoutbox. All of these little touches just make the forum a little more personalized. Ahh yes, the shoutbox. We have brought back the shoutbox and removed the Facebook like system due to many reasons. The main reason is the look of it, as we couldn't personalize it much. The other reason was because it took too much server resources and slowed the forum down. So, that's gone and replaced with the public shoutbox. To add a little more features to the forum, we started with a graphic editor. This isn't like Paint as seen on Windows. This is a Photoshop/GIMP throw off on a TechOverdrive! If you want to try it out, click on the "Pixlr" link on the navigation bar, its really fun to use. Other than that, I am back online and able to post again on the forum! So, lets get back in the game and post , post, POST!

- Up-loader: TechOverdrive has it's own image hosting for your pictures! It's free to use, fast to upload, and no watermarks on the output image! All files are hosted on our servers are are cached after so long, so, no losing your images! So, try it out today! Its free!

- Pixlr: Pixlr is our own image editor right on the board! With features that mimic those of Photoshop and GIMP, it has it all. It's fun to use, fast to use and best of all, no downloading. All images can be saved right to your hard drive too! Upload an image of your own or even just create one by yourself. It's a great addition to the forum, members love it!

- New theme: We have installed another theme for the board. This theme offers a sleek look and feel to the board and with a mod installed, now has personal icons instead of the unread and read icons. With a new banner and icons for the shoutbox and other features, it sure does look nice. We have already gotten high props for it!

- New shop: Since we have a point mod installed on the board, you can now use your points for something! From a bigger PM box to new ranks to new features, you can buy it! (Still working on it)

This is Lucky here with one of the biggest updates that "TechOverdrive" has had! Seeing that a technology forum wasn't doing so well in the world of forums, I have decided to make TechOverdrive into a general discussion board. Allowing members to discuss anything that comes into their minds allows for more of a community feel where the members can gather together and actually discuss what is on their minds. So, in hopes of achieving this, I now present you with DiscussionOverdrive!

I want to take the time to say thank you to my dedicated forum staff that has been there since the start of ThatTechKid 2 years ago using ForuMotion and now using IPB and they are still there. I want to say thank you personally as Kyle and not as Lucky. Thanks guys!

I also want to thank my members that have brought TechOverdrive to where it is now, and I only hope with the new change, the forum community will grow and will stay together for a long time. Thank you a lot guys!
